Great experience! Good service and reasonably priced. Great staff! Really good equipment to choose from as well.. super fun and we would do it again! It's super nice to have been able to have something like this at our disposal. Highly recommend trying them out.

I have taken a few classes from Richard at OAC. I highly recommend OAC for trips and instruction. In climbing and avalanche courses I received lots of good instruction and Richard really know how to teach a difficult concept. He also explains why you are doing something and different methods of accomplishing the same thing. I also recommend staying at the OAC cabin. Great price and location.

I recently took the Beyond Basics rock climbing trip at Castle Rock State Park and it was way better than I expected it to be. I have a taken a few rock climbing classes since moving to Northern California and this one was by far the best. First of all, Richard Bothwell is just really cool. He was relaxed, funny, and easy to hang out with, but was completely serious when it came to teaching and safety. You can tell you are with someone who knows what they are doing and that made it easy to just let go and focus on climbing. So, we started at 8:00 in the morning and climbed until 6:00 at night...good luck trying to find another class that doesn't end by 3:00 and you feel like the guide just wants to head home. Also, he pushed the class in a way that everyone surpassed their best grades, but did so without ever feeling pushy. He never let anyone give up on a climb, but kept it light and supportive the whole time. And while it was a next step class, he taught us about anchors, assessing bolts, placing gear, and any other information we asked about. What was also cool is that he watched our style, picked out our flaws, and then spent time fixing our issues in a mini-clinic that helped our whole class improve. We were all climbing with bent arms and he taught us to straighten them while positioning our body differently...sooooo helpful. The other guide, Erik was really cool and had the same attitude as Richard. Erik took me over to a climb I didn't think was possible and helped me work through the moves to send a very difficult route. On top of all we learned, Richard and Erik just made the day really fun. Pizza and beer afterward didn't hurt either...

Great club. I've enjoyed and learned a lot on OAC's trips. I've participated in hikes, avalanche education and awareness classes, backcountry ski trips in Lassen Volcanic National Park and Yosemite, in OAC'sTahoe ski house, and mountaineering in Peru Great people, fun, adventurous, educational.
