Prospero's Books

An independent book shop, the kind you visit without an end goal! This store is fantastic. In my opinion, it's the old school version of a bookstore that we readers and thinkers crave. Hints of musty book smell (read musty, not moldy or mildew-y), shelving to the ceiling packed with troves of books, and a unique basement layout on the lower level are all key highlights here. Like most others, I love exploring the nooks of the basements, but also don't discount the ground floor. Plentiful seating, great for plopping down with a future purchase to get acquainted before sealing the deal. The staff is great, laid back but intellectual and helpful. A true treasure for any city, in our own KC, in the 39th Street District.

This is a great used bookstore. They have vinyl and CDs. You get a better deal than 1/2 Price Books when you trade books for store credit. I have taken books I have read and gotten excellent cookbooks and art books. They have an event space on the second floor and often have live music.

One step into this gem and you're instantly inspired to explore every book it has to offer! Also, three floors to roam through! Take your time and enjoy sweet little places like this ..

3 floors of reasonably priced books. Lots of selection, and places to sit. Parking may be a bit of an issue(on street, parallel) but it wasnt bad. Will visit the bookstore and area again

Prospero's books is a lovely gem in a wonderful neighborhood. The selection never fails to provide Curiosities and other wonderful reading experiences. The staff goes out of their way to help and to make suggestions. Don't miss this one of a kind experience and keep your eyes peeled for announcements about upstairs activities.
