Public house used to be fantastic. Unfortunately, their prices have increased over the years, but the quality of food and service has gone downhill. I am a vegetarian and have always gotten Public House’s vegetable plate. I work at a hotel just one block from here and usually order to go on my lunch or dinner break. I find it interesting that the dinner veggie plate is several more dollars than the one served at lunch because they both have the same amount of food. Last time I ordered this, I was served pitiful looking green beans and asparagus. I had to walk my food back over and return it. After the manager asked me “You didn’t like your food?” And I replied with I’m not sure, it looked so awful, I didn’t want to eat it.”I received a half hearted apology from him and he returned my $18. Yes, $18 for a veggie plate.

The food here is delicious — a real value with great service! The red wine pot roast entree is fantastic. The peanut butter pie is the best I’ve ever had; fresh made peanut butter made in-house topped with fresh chopped peanuts. Cocktails were fresh & crisp. This restaurant has a fine dining atmosphere but for a reasonable price. We live in Knoxville and weren’t disappointed. Definitely recommend The Public House in downtown Chattanooga!

Southern cooking done well. From the pimento cheese to the fried pickles we really enjoyed the food. We ended up coming in 15 minutes before closing but were still seated and served. The ambiance was very clean and simple, almost like a blend between southern and Scandinavian design.

Visited the Public House last night while in town for a basketball game.   All four of us ordered different items and each was very pleased with their dinners.  

The food was excellent and fresh.  The portions were good-sized and the prices were very reasonable for this level of dining.  Anyone  who thinks the prices are high would be sore pressed to find the same quality and quantity of food in a market such as Nashville or Atlanta.

Restaurant was very clean and the staff was professional.  Of special note, the restaurant takes and honors reservations in a timely manner.  They communicated to us and to other patrons the exact timeline our table was on and when we could expect to be seated.

If you are local, get to this place regularly.  If visiting, like we were, don't miss your chance.

I am impressed. My husband, my one year old son, and I all had delicious food. Every dish was superb. I highly recommend their fried chicken.  I usually hate chicken, but theirs is tender and flavorful. Our server Adrienne was awesome. She knew the ins and outs of how each dish was prepared. The atmosphere is upscale chill.
