Nice for walk. Seldom accosted by panhandlers. Creek here has some nice pools. Dog likes to swim. Depending on date and time not crowded.

If you know where to look, there are some beautiful places along the creek for photo opportunities

Depending on what stretch of the creek you are on will depend on how good the creek is. The closer to the hills you get the better it is. Once it is past Rapid City it is pretty dirty water. Up stream the creek is a nice clear blue water.

Mni Lúzahaŋ Wakpala or Rapid Creek. This creek is said to be the birth place of the Lakota warrior Crazy Horse 🐎. The Lakota have always known this stream to be a rather dangerous one thus, the name. The creeks head waters start on the Eastern side of Limestone Plateau on the Western side of the Black Hills (Paha Sapa). The stream flows through the majority of Rapid City where much of it is now managed/engineered since the great flood of 1972. Within city limits there are many parks, sporting facilities, bike paths and even a small lake from which to enjoy. Becareful as it can be a dangerous creek after high precipitation events in the Black Hills. The stream leaves the city going southeast heading for its confluence (30min drive) with the Cheyenne River, also known as the Good River (wakpa waste in Lakota). You are near the confluence when you see a large concrete dinosaur known as the Creston Dinosaur. Enjoy!
