It's difficult to put into words just how incredible this place is. Being from Indiana, it's unlike anything I've ever seen and likely ever will see. Lots of history, plenty of overlooks and scenic byways, places to camp, trails, you name it. All the staff I encountered there were more than helpful and pleasant. If you're going through South Dakota, this place is a must. Heck, it's even worth being a vacation destination.

Wow! This place is awesome. Pretty pricey to get in (was $20 for me and one other) but it was beautiful. We came when it was overcast so pictures turned out great. It would be cool to see with sunlight to see all the shadows made by the ridges. Definitely worth checking out this place!

Badlands National Park is a fascinating geological site with lots of interesting formations and picturesque views all around the park. We visited in late May and it was already getting hot, and the heat just hits you hard because there is no shade at all. We hiked on the Castle Trail but were not able to finish it all because it is an out and back. The hike was interesting because you were able to get away from the large groups of people and experience the junction point of the grasslands and the formations all to yourself. There were lots of birds if you are a birder and fortunately, we did not see any snakes on our hike. We really wanted to hike the Medicine Root loop (4 miles) but were told by the ranger at the visitor center that there was no parking where the Castle Trail crosses the road. There was an undeveloped parking area with an RV, a car and room for more. I wish we were told the truth by the ranger because that would have been my prefered section to hike. In addition to the Castle Trail we took the 0.5 Cliff Shelf trail. This was a quick and easy hike that has a little bit of elevation gain and loss. Not many people were making the full loop but it really is pretty easy. We then drove the rest of the loop road. Along the way we were fortunate to see a lot of female and baby big horn sheep right along the road. We had a nice trip and everyone should experience the park at least once.

Beautiful place. If people would just pick up their own trash it would keep this place even better. All in all a good place to bring the kids and learn about the neat geology of this land. Almost alien planet like over here. Not that I've been. Or have I?

Loved hiking here. So many places to explore! We hiked the first day, and it was hard going. The weather was drizzling and damp, it made for a slippery Terrain, but it was still beautiful. The next day was dry and sunny. Much easier hiking. Breath taking views. At some points the contrast from one side of the road to the other was mind boggling. From high peaks to low valleys with goats. Other side of the road Prairie with grazing cattle and noisy prairie dogs! Loved it!
