REI

Another beautiful REI in an urban landscape. A quick stop turned into a wonderful exploration of every floor in this beautifully renovated building. The Puck building was renovated in 2011 and REI just did an update after 7 years. Lithographic Stones are on display that were found behind a wall in the cellar during the 2011 renovation. Two flywheels are also still in place. An employee named Mark was kind enough to take time to chat with us about the original structure: brick arched ceilings, wood timbers, original lighting fixtures, etc. The staff are wonderful and the store is well stocked.

Great variety of outdoor supplies. The ability to browse the stock is critical for buying stuff that meets your needs, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. It's usually more expensive than online shops, but if you become a member you automatically take advantage of returns through dividends and yearly discounts that often allow you to break even.

This is the best camping store in NYC, has everything for the great outdoors. 3 floors of bikes, kayaks, backpacks, shoes, and anything else for you're next adventure. REI has the best return program one year if you're a member and membership is only 20$, even if the item is used they will take it back. Often have big sales and deals for end of season or holidays. Don't bother trying to find parking just take the train to Broadway and Lafayette walk to south exit, its cross the street from the station.

Love the store and the REI brand but the associates are oblivious to customers. Waited patiently and politely to have a pack adjusted by I think Kelly only to be skipped over and over and over after looking me in the eye. She seemed very knowledgable but definitely lackluster in providing good customer service. Oh well... it was a good run.

Favorite place to shop in Manhattan. Fantastic employees. Obviously great outdoor gear. Or if you work in an active profession.
