We’ve been here many times and have generally had a good experience and tasty food that we enjoy. However, tonight we found a piece of glass in our refried beans. When we alerted our server and asked to speak to the manager, it took the manager 10 minutes to come over, and he didn’t really seem to take it seriously. Extremely disappointed and concerned about the safety of eating here. What if everyone in this busy restaurant knew that we’d just found glass in our food?

Most authentic Mexican food I've found in Minnesota. Very nice, excellent chips and salsa while you wait for food. I've had the fajitas and enchiladas many times and loved both.

This place could be considered a staple of Mexican food in Chanhassen. The food is very good, the staff is always very friendly and have been there for many many years, so they recognize you every time you come in, making the experience even better. The Queso dip is a must for every visitor, so order yourself a treat as soon as your chips land on your table... You will not be disappointed.

Ray Azteca is a small brightly colored restaurant located in a strip mall. We were greeted, seated and served chips and salsa within five minutes. The tomatoes in the salsa were soggy and the cilantro was wilted. In other words, it tasted and looked like it came out of jar that was opened over a week ago. The chips were warm and crunchy. I ordered a combination plate (#3): one taco, one enchilada and one tostada. When the food arrived, the waiter said the plate was hot. He was using hot pads to protect his hands. I received a hard shell taco instead of a soft shell, which wasn't a big deal. (I didn't want to try and get a soft one because the waiter didn't speak English and he had to get another waiter to help so I could tell him what type of meat I preferred.) When I went to pick it up, the taco was stuck to the plate! I attempted to use my fork to try and salvage the taco, but it was soggy. I gave up, and I moved on to the tostada. The tostada was absent of any refried beans. It had shredded beef and some type of cheese sauce on it. When I went to pick it up, again, I could not. It was stuck to the plate as well. I moved on to the enchilada, which was covered in some type of cheese sauce too. The enchilada was edible, but not remarkable. The entire dish lacked freshness. The only produce on my plate was warm brown rimmed lettuce. No tomatoes, no onions in the taco nor tostada. It was obvious everything was cold prepped and the entire plate was thrown into the oven. Not good!
My son ordered three chicken flour tacos. They were wrapped in foil. When he went to remove them from the foil; steam rushed out and they were stuck to the foil too!
I think this place is reheating cold food and it is difficult to even eat it because everything is stuck to the plate. I would think reheating leftovers would be a health code violation. Very disappointing. The waitstaff and interior have potential, but the food-get a chef who will actually cook to order.

My wife and I discovered this gem years ago. The food is fabulous and the portions generous. We have tried several items on the menu and all have been great. We have tried other Mexican restaurants in the area but always end up back here; they can't compare. The staff is very friendly and the service has always been quick. Highly recommend Rey Azteca!
