We camped with 3 other couples in travel trailers in the lower loop of Grousehaven Lake the last weeked of April 2018. It wasn't warm enough at night for the water to be turned on in the campground, but it was nice to have a heated bathhouse/shower to use, and everything was clean. Since it was still early in the season, the grounds were a bit messy--TONS of deer droppings all over most sites, massive amounts of pine cones all over the ground, etc.--but you sure can't beat the beauty of the woods and lakes there. The staff was super nice and friendly. It was quiet at night and we slept great. Some in our group tried to drive the dirt road that goes all around the park, but once they got past the viewing tower (they saw 3 eagles up close!), the road was so rutted and full of water that they had to turn around and come back (even with a 4 x 4!) so they wouldn't get stuck. Again, that's a spring thing, and the road will improve as summer gets closer. It was a nice trip and we truly enjoyed the park!

This is one of the best state rec. areas in the state in my opinion. Love the many secluded lakes and cabins. The river and lakes give many kayaking and fishing opportunities. The hiking trails are awesome especially in the spring and fall. Many different campgrounds in the park. Everything from modern, semi-rustic and full rustic. Campgrounds are mixed around the park from being on the lakes, river, or secluded back in the woods.
