The folks in my local office were nice. The approval and finalization process for the mortgage on my new home was smooth. However, I can’t recommend this company to anyone.
One of the main reasons I wanted to work with Ruoff was that they have a local office close to my new home. During my vetting process for a mortgage provider, I specifically asked if Ruoff re-sells their mortgages (I was told no, they try to keep as many loans as possible); I asked if they would provide customer service for the life of the loan (I was told they would). Unfortunately, none of this is true.
They sold my loan to a small finance company I’ve never heard of who is located out of Atlanta. Obviously, not local at all.
Ruoff sold my loan to a company with over 85 complaints logged with Consumer Affairs. This company has a D+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. And other reviews are not favorable at all. They don’t even have an operational website.
Unfortunately, the deal is already done so there isn't much that can be changed. Ultimately, I'm disappointed with Ruoff and wouldn't recommend them to any looking for a mortgage.
UPDATE: Since I wrote this review, my loan has been sold AGAIN. This time, to a company with a D- rating with the BBB. It's gone from bad to worse. This is exactly the situation I was trying to avoid in working with Ruoff. But the opposite has occurred. Again, extremely disappointed with Ruoff.

I'm a REALTOR in the Bloomington area and can say that Ruoff is absolutely one of my favorite lenders to work with. They provide excellent service. I especially appreciate their regular communication in keeping everyone involved up to date. I highly recommend their services!

Karan at Ruoff did an amazing job at helping us purchase our first home! She answered every question we had and made sure we were able to fit everything in our budget. Thank you for a great experience!

Two words: MARK TAYLOR. He was AWESOME in helping me secure my USDA loan after a nightmare-ish first-round experience with a local Bloomington bank lender who almost caused me to lose my house. A typical loan approval takes 45 days; Mark completed mine in 21 (after my initial 50 days of stressful hell with the bank). He was in contact almost daily to keep me up to speed and let me know of anything relevant to my loan. Not only was he excellent at his job and totally on top of every single deadline, but he is also an incredibly kind person with a great sense of humor, and he was wonderful to work with. I can't recommend Mark and Ruoff Home Mortgage enough! I will be returning here for any and all of my future home financing needs.

I have had nothing but problems with this company. I contacted them to get pre-approved for a loan and was told i was approved but never received a letter stating they pulled my credit or a pre-approval letter. When I found out i had to have this letter to put an offer in on a house i called and asked as to why i never received it i was then told the ONLY way i could get one was to bring my taxes, check stubs and bank statements in first. I don't understand why i was not told this to being with. Now that i have a house i called to see about getting it refinanced. Never once was i told that i have to have 12 months worth of payment receipts before they would even consider helping me(i did inform them that i have only had the house 6 months but was told that wasn't an issue and then found out it was) but they had no issues once so ever pulling my credit and then telling me that I'm not financially fit to refi! Is there not a way to look at finances without pulling a credit report? All this place has ever done is lie to me time and time again!! I will never be contacting this company again!!!
