Sauvie Island Stables

We had a wonderful New Year Eve party with friends who live on the island.

My family has been boarding at Sauvie Island Stables for 7 years. We currently have 3 horses stabled there. The atmosphere is warm and supportive with boarders going on rides together on the property (75 acres of trails) and also traveling and camping together. The owners are accessible, open and easy to talk to. They live on the property and keep a close eye on all our precious equines. Our trainer Judy is a wonderful teacher and has students who started with her at 4 or 5 who are still riding with her and are part of our barn family. We feel so lucky to have our horses in such a lovely and easy going barn where the care is great and our animals thrive!!!

I have boarded at Sauvie Island Stables since 1999 and there are several people who have boarded here even longer. I think that is a positive review in and of itself. I like this barn because it is actually a low-drama, laid-back place. I have attended horse activities at many other barns and never saw one where I would rather board. I find the boarders friendly and we look out for each others' horses and support each other as needed. I am very sorry that a few of the boarders had an unpleasant experience here. The trainer is great and I admire and trust her skills enough that I let her use my horse in her lesson program for many years, until I retired him due to old age.

I have been boarding my pony at Sauvie Island Stables over 20 years. In response to two reviews posted that claimed the horses were treated poorly by the owners is completely without merit. I have never seen nor heard of any horse being mistreated. I don't know why these former boarders would write what they did. Sauvie Island Stables is a wonderful place to board your horse, the many riding trails at the stables and around the island make this location perfect. Our barn is pretty laid back, not full of drama! People, please write accurate reviews.

I worked at Sauvie island stables and boarded there for about a year and a half. The owners are nice for a few months then turn nasty. I was instructed to leave horses in the round pen with no food or water as a "time out". Keep in mind these horses do no belong to the stable owners, so they are disciplining other people's horses. I paid for am turn out and my horses were not turned out until noon or sometimes even one and I would end up turning them out myself. None of the pastures have grass they are complete mud bowls. The outdoor "arena" is used as a turn out so you are never able to actually ride outside. The trainer there has very little English knowledge let alone jumping and is attempting to train jumping and dressage. She got on my horse without my permission and messed up my horses back resulting in my paying $100 for chiropractic. There was also another lady that got on my horse without permission and complained of him bucking and proceeded to spread rumors. My friend boarded there and was continually harassed by the boarders. The stable is dark and depressing. I moved to another stable and I was STILL harassed by the boarders there even though I wasn't there anymore. I would give this stable a lower star if I could. The owners have mentally checked out of stable owning, the trainer is wacky out of her mind, and the boarders are just nasty.
