I’ve been gluten free, not by choice, for almost ten years. Gluten free baked goods tend to fall into a few categories
-boring (we have a gluten free brownie, and a gluten free chocolate chip cookie!)
-tasteless/tastes bad (I’m intimately familiar with the flavor of a baked good that’s 90% potato starch)
-dry, or dry within an hour of coming out of the case
-dense (usually caused by trying not to be dry, and the baked food ends up the consistency of dense, slightly cooked, paste)
-sickeningly sweet, usually to cover up for the lack of flavor
-over priced, even when the fact it’s gluten free is taken into account
-if it’s vegan the above issues are usually 10 times worse
My first visit to Shana Cake was yesterday. I tried 1-2 bites of two different kinds of donuts, a lemon bar, two different kinds of cupcakes, a cookie, and the waffles (I basically bought one of everything in the case and couldn’t help but see what was good and what wasn’t)
The above issues did not apply to anything I tried. For gluten free stuff they’re really priced reasonably. They’re moist, fluffy, creative, and delicious. I even called and clarified the stuff I got was gluten free. Half of these items sat on the counter overnight, completely by accident, and they’re not hard crumbly bricks this morning. Only one item was vegan, but what was is truly yummy. I don’t say that lightly.
The store is clean and pleasant, and the girl behind the counter was polite, chipper, helpful.
This place lives up to the hype. It’s 100% worth a visit.

I can't express how much I appreciate this place. For one my husband has several allergies - corn and wheat and to a lesser extent dairy. This is one of the few places we have found that makes genuinely delicious gluten free/dairy free sweets that is ALSO sans corn. Their lemon flavored stuff is my absolute favorite and their signature Shana cupcake flavor (Lemon w/ Strawberry Frosting) is to die for. Secondly, I chose Shana Cakes for my wedding. They made three cakes in all - one Red Velvet, one chocolate/chocolate, and the main cake (two tiered) was lemon with vanilla frosting. I wanted them simple and semi-naked (meaning the icing would allow the cake to show through in various areas) All three were awesome! I had tons of compliments from the guests concerning them. To top it off, the three cakes were also INCREDIBLY affordable. I recommend if you want scrumptious GF wedding cakes!

We just had them do our wedding cake so I could enjoy my own wedding without fear of a cross contact... it was so good and I was so satisfies with the friendliness of Kelly and the rest of the staff we have encountered.

If you have food allergies or know someone who does, you have experienced the disappointment of having to forego meals or dessert because they aren't safe. Shana Cake makes absolutely delicious cupcakes, cakes, breads, and other treats that are carefully made to be safe.
