Stroud's Oak Ridge Manor

One of the greatest fried chicken places in the country, this is another iconic KC restaurant. Stroud's North is in an old mansion that has a country charm all it's own. The menu is not overly expansive, but there are very few things on the menu that aren't excellently prepared. Obviously the pan fried chicken is the star of the menu and the portions are huge. My family and I never eat here without taking food home. So why not a five-star rating? It might be picky, but parking is horrible. The parking lot is gravel and difficult to walk on. (I have a prosthetic leg and there's not nearly enough disabled parking) In bad weather, getting from the lot to the restaurant can sometimes be a challenge.

The menu is not overly expansive, but there are very few things on the menu that aren't excellently prepared. Obviously the pan fried chicken is the star of the menu and the portions are huge. My family and I never eat here without taking food home. Especially the cinnamon rolls. Lord have mercy. I don’t even like chicken that much. But the chicken here is just so gawd dang good for reals y’all. The parking blows. But I have always found a spot. I had to wait 30 minutes once. But I plan my trips and try to arrive during a slow time. I love the waitstaff too.

My husband, three year old son & I ate dinner here tonight. There is not a word in the universe that describes how delicious the food was. ALL of the staff was super friendly... great job and we appreciated that by the way... If you haven't been here, add it to your bucket list because you should most definitely go! Wait times are worth it and then some. I thought the cinnamon rolls at the end of the meal put our experience over the top (YUM!) but when Micheal gave our son a special little treat of his own, I was SO impressed, amazed and have never in my life felt this way about a restaurant before. I can not thank all of you enough for such a wonderful evening.

I suspect Stroud's has become so comfortable in it's tried and true routine that they don't realize they've lost that something special they used to own. The food on our last visit was just not memorable. The dining rooms are in need of a sprucing up. The waitstaff was nice but their minds seemed to be somewhere else. The grounds are nice to explore while you wait for your table. We haven't given up on it yet, but without some love and attention I suspect this institution will sadly wither.

"Strouds chicken" t-shirts say we choke our own chickens! Family style eating. You will Not leave hungry. Nice staff good service great prices. Complimentary cinnamon rolls for desert. You can't beat this place
