Taco trio is the closest to Mexican food that I've come across so far in Portland. Actually, I haven't had any of their tacos, but I can vouch for the deliciousness of their tamales. Their tamales are always specials so the ingredients are different everyday but they are pretty good. Definitely nothing like homemade, but not far. Their selection of salsas is great and the bar style allows you to choose what you want as much as you want.

I hate writing bad reviews because I know somewhere behind the experience is a small business owner trying to do the right thing. I know the owners care because I've read their responses to other bad reviews. Regardless, I've just had my third and likely last meal at Taco Trio. The last two times I'd eaten there the food was at best, mediocre and bland. Being in the area and starving I decided to try it again because it popped up on google with a 4.7 star average so it "must" be better than my previously limited experience there. After my last experience there I can only assume the 4.7 stars is coming from hipsters raving about "authentic mexican", "homemade", etc. The reviews seem to be coming from people that don't get out much, have never had authentic mexican, and that are writing with the herd mentality that "everyone else says it's good so it must be". The short version: The tortillas that make up their burritos and tacos are a doughy mess that taste bland and leave an impression of just being under cooked. The pork was actually decent, I have to give some credit there but that's the best I can offer in terms of accolades. I think what really was a nail in the coffin for me was the fact that the mango salsa at the bar had a distinct and off putting fishy flavor. Also, I'm a hot sauce fan and tried one of theirs at the salsa bar. Good heat, horrible flavor. Lastly, I will say that upon ordering 3 tacos, 1 burrito, a beer and a wine, I had to do a double take when the cashier rung us up at $42. I actually paused to look at the menu and do the math in my head. Had the food not been such a letdown I could easily look past the pricing but I can't help but wish I had the $42 back.

I actually obsess about the next time I get to eat at Taco Trio. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. The place is very clean and they compost/recycle everything. Once you eat tacos here you won't want them anywhere else!

This is a go to take out spot for me. Can't go wrong with a deluxe steak burrito and horchata! The salsa bar is fabulous. There's always parking and the location is super convenient without the hustle and bustle of going into Portland proper. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because a burrito with all the fixins will run you about $15 which is pricey but not outlandish enough to stop me from coming back. Overall the best burrito to be had in Portland!
