Topaz Internment Camp Site

The museum in Delta is well worth the visit. It does a great job interpreting the events and the impact on the people. A great combination of artifacts, art, photo's, and video. They will also provide a map to the camp along with a driving tour. Free.

When the air is bad on the WF head down to Topaz. A great new museum the state and partners have put together. Not too big or too small. I would also go to the site. It gives a sense of place to Japanese Americans and their forced removal. Stop and see the old mining sites on the way down.

Note: this is the actual internment camp site, NOT the museum - you should definitely go to the museum first in order to appreciate this site more. They provided me a map of the site, which helped me understand what I was seeing more. I thought this was a very interesting place to go. You can just drive around and look at what's left of the internment camp. There's just foundations, nails, and some markers of where buildings would have been, but it has an eerie/sacred feel about it. I thought it was worth the drive out, just to see the actual place where these things happened, rather than just reading about what happened.

All the buildings have been removed from this site. However, it is still very interesting to see. Some of the old foundations are left behind. I would recommend going to the museum first and then visiting this site.

Outstanding new museum, has 2 great short movies. Very informative, & don't miss museum next door.
