Truck was fine. Service was terrible.
Upon arriving we tried to use the new u-haul app to do the self service check in / out. Well of course it doesn’t work. So my S.O. tried to explain to the guy what was happening. Basically refused to listen.
So I went in asking for help since he wouldn’t help my S.O. I was short and direct with what was happening as to be quick to get everything in before he cut me off.
He basically ignored me as well and put a pamphlet on the counter with a number to call. No one answered. Shocker.
I leave the desk and tell my S.O. what was up. We go back inside and re-explain the issue. Magically he wants to help now.
Upon returning the truck he had the audacity to say I should be more patient, calling back to when we picked up the truck. Hahahahaha. Heed your own advice before dishing it out.
Give your money to some other u-haul location. There’s one ~1 mile south on MLK.

The location at the 76 station at 5520 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97211 screwed a lot of people on 04.01.2018 by allowing reservations then not opening. Luckily, I went to the Columbia Blvd location and got a 26' truck for the price of a 15' (the size I had reserved at the 76 location. Unfortunately, when I left the 76 dealer I saw several people in a similar situation trying to figure out what to do. Moving day is stressful and it is terribly irresponsible of this dealer to have essentially no-call-no-showed. I appreciate the discounts provided at the Columbia location but it should be noted how wild inconvenience the one dealer made for multiple people. There are other locations around Portland and just one time of stressing people out more than they already are is enough to say don't even bother with this place.

WoW! Hour and a half wait to check in my rental cost me a days rental on the truck. That's just wrong. But, they did service me well, I use a Mobility Scooter, and they did help with getting it to the truck door for me.

The service at this place is terrible. Attention to detail is very poor, and when they make a mistake they don't even have the decency to apologize. Not to mention their rip-off gas prices. There are much cheaper gas stations, and much more pleasant uhaul locations, all within a mile or two of this place.

I needed a small truck or van to go get a used office desk we bought on the spur of the moment and this place was the closest that still had one left late on a Saturday afternoon. We made our reservations over the phone with U-haul corporate and had no trouble when we picked up the van. The owner of this neighborhood store was friendly and easy to work with at the beginning. We told him we planned to drop it off that same evening and he showed us how to deal with the after hours drop-off procedure. When we picked up the desk and credenza, we realized they were both way too heavy for us to unload by ourselves and we couldn't find anyone to help us unload that evening but were able to get help the next morning. When we had made the reservation for the u-haul over the phone, we were told it was a 24 hour rental and when we picked it up, no other drop-off times were discussed other than that we expected to drop it off that same evening. When our plans changed, we assumed we still had it rented through to the next afternoon. The next morning at 9am, I got a very rude phone call from the same man that had helped me the day before, aggressively telling me that I he needed the van back immediately so he could rent it. I told me that I had signed the agreement which showed an 8:45am return time. When I explained that we had never discussed this and I was completely unaware of this issue, he got very belligerent and started telling me that he would have to charge us an extra $100 for bringing it back late. I told him that was ridiculous and that I wasn't going to pay anything because we hadn't been aware of this issue. He kept saying, "you signed the agreement, so you should have read it", and, "I'm just trying to help you out." I agreed that I wish I had read the agreement but that he should have verbally made it clear, too. He was a complete jerk and just kept trying to place all blame on me and that I had really screwed him and the customer that was coming to pick it up. I told him I would get it there as quickly as possible but we still had to get it unloaded. At that point, he said he would only charge us $50 extra if we got it there by 11:30. I told him that was unacceptable and then he hung up on me. We unloaded the van and called U-haul customer service on the way to drop it off. They were very helpful and promised to remove the extra charge that had already been placed on the account. When we got there at 11:20 to drop off the van, no one was in the office and we were told by the gas station guys that he was "at lunch" and to just drop the keys in the slot. Fortunately, u-haul was good to their word and didn't charge us any extra fees but I will never do business with this location again. If you choose to rent from them, make sure you read everything carefully!
