The accommodations I stayed in were clean, sterile is a good way to describe it. The "kitchen" they provide in Halsell - you are sharing this with other people, mind - has a two-burner "stove top" that is an electrical convection type gadget. I couldn't use the copper pans I packed. There's zero counter space if you actually want to cook a meal. One of my neighbors rooms was flooded for at least a day or so, on the fourth floor. All the residents and RA's were nice, but staff at Arnold Hall across the way did not seem to have answers for questions I had. I stayed for 8 days and got locked out of my building twice, when I went to Arnold to get it fixed it was a lengthy process, where I had to return on both occasions. It is convenient for the purposes of being on campus, but both times when I was locked out, I was nearly for my field work, which defeats the purpose of staying on campus. I also had to scramble to find a parking spot on the home-game day (football). I was not told about this, and there was no way for me to get a temp resident parking permit. If I had not found a spot, I would have had to paid $40 to park when I already bought a monthly parking pass. It was an affordable stay, ~$30 a night to stay here. My experience may differ from a lot of other peoples, but I would advise to find other accommodations if you are a scholar or traveling student from another university.

Lots of different meal choices, dorms are expensive (but you get what you pay for). You can live off campus and save money like I did, but I also lived with a family of rats for 6 months (they wouldn't pay rent so we had them evicted). Maybe just live on campus... Many places in Corvallis are a lot worse than they seem at first. (you're technically more likely to graduate if you live on campus too!) Many healthy and diverse food options available, and if a freshmen burns your food or gives you your pizza upside-down honestly just return it for a new one, it'll be quicker and easier than posting it on the UHDS twitter page just to get the same end result. If you have problems with an RA, chef, etc. just keep going up the company hierarchy and thoroughly document your issue, you will almost always have your issue solved in a satisfactory way. I think lots of people focus on the negatives that are inherent in a company that employs college students for the majority of their work, but honestly there's a lot of cool stuff UHDS does. Like the Callahan food forest, where students can just walk in and grab fresh fruits and vegetables at anytime. Or finals freebies, where the first few people to respond on twitter during finals week get coffee/food delivered to them anywhere on campus. Definitely worth staying in tune with their social media to hear about events and promotions!

Decent food whoever the dorms and food are incredibly overpriced and not worth it. The only reason many students pay for the high rent here is because they are forced to by University policy.
