We have been here many times. They have a unique location on an island with many waterfront sites. Reservations are not easy and should be made far in advance. This is an expensive CG, but it is just the kind of place we like. Full hook ups most sites. Cabins and marina to rent, boat slip if you like. Grounds are rustic and in good shape. We are returning again this year for a week. This is a real unique CG and we love it. Would be 5 stars except for high price.
We spent the weekend in cabin 5 which has a beautiful waterfront view. The total price for a 2 night reservation was $570.54. The cabin was spacious and slept 7 with 2 doubles, a single and a pull out sofa bed. There was a problem with mouse droppings in the kitchen and in the pull out sofa bed. The dark haired woman who checked us in was not friendly and seemed annoyed when I asked questions. When checking out I mentioned the mouse droppings and was scolded for not telling someone right away. The island itself is very pretty and clean. We did some fishing at the Marina and caught some perch. There is an awesome concession area with ice cream and other fast foods. The couple working there were absolutely wonderful, friendly and outgoing. All and all a great trip. I would stay there again, just deal with things a little differently.
The good...its a beautiful location and I do believe they are making improvements. The bad...Mayflies!!! Wow. They overwhelmed our cottage and got all over inside. Our cottage needs a little more TLC. Front windows that did have screens, have rips in them allowing the bugs in. We wanted to open our bedroom window, but it was duct tape shut? I understand they can't control the bugs, but the AC window unit was disgusting inside and out. The beds were decent and the shower had excellent pressure and hot water. The kitchen was nicely furnished for a camp site. Overall, we'd come back again and give it another try.
My family and I have been here before, before the new owners. I’m not impressed with the new owners. The welcome building is very cute, but it closes so early! I’ve been camping For 9 years and they have always closed later. We got ice cream twice Memorial Day weekend, the first time was good, but the second time was the complete opposite. The stores close at 8 but because of that you kicked out over 30 people. People eat dinner late when they camp and obviously the ice cream place closes early. I also suggest you put locks on your ice boxes to keep old men out. It was a fun trip but I’ve very upset with my stay. Your website also lies, there is almost nothing for kids to do, but on your website it says there is a playground, jump pillow, and pool. The pool had no water and the jump pillow and playground we ripped out. Not impressed. Food & drinks: Not happy with your ice cream shop, it closes to early and you run out constantly.
What a great time! Staff were outstanding and went above and beyond to make our anniversary camping trip a memorable one! Lakeside camping is the best way to do it! Can't wait to come back again next year!!Rooms: 5/5
Excellent location, just stayed 7 nights. Glad to see the playground being Installed as we were leaving. All the sun outdoors properties we have stayed at this is one of the cleanest with friendly park staff, after we got past the rude woman at check in. All in all a great place we will be back
I write this review with a heavy heart, reflecting on an experience that went from pleasant to deeply distressing during our stay at Sun Outdoors Association Island. When we initially arrived, the campground was clean, well-maintained, and the staff seemed friendly. However, the situation took a dramatic turn when we faced an unexpected issue with our RV's towing hitch. Though the campground appeared to be nearly empty, with several available sites, the management insisted we move our RV despite its immobility due to the broken hitch. What followed was a series of events that I can only describe as a Kafkaesque nightmare. An encounter with a staff member who was not just unprofessional but cruel and mocking left me in tears. His demeanor was chauvinistic and his behavior degrading, all in front of my children. But the ordeal did not end there. A call from the corporate office added insult to injury. Not only did they refuse to accommodate our situation, but they also falsely claimed to have contacted our welder a complete stranger to the campground and misrepresented his professional assessment of our situation. When confronted with these inconsistencies, the corporate representative literally hung up on me. The total lack of compassion, the unnecessary bureaucracy, and the blatant dishonesty have left us feeling like victims of abuse rather than guests at a campground. The refusal to allow us to stay in our spot, when they could easily have moved the incoming guests to any one of the many open spots, was baffling and irrational. I share this review not out of spite but as a warning to others who may consider staying at Sun Outdoors Association Island. While the place may seem inviting at first glance, our experience has shown that when faced with unforeseen circumstances, you may find yourself subjected to treatment that lacks humanity, understanding, and integrity. Though we paid for our stay and made every effort to cooperate, we were met with resistance, deceit, and a level of disrespect that has no place in any hospitality setting. I would strongly advise potential visitors to consider other options, where the management values not only your patronage but your dignity as well.
Beautiful location for the campground. Staff we first met were disney nice, front desk not so much. Missing listed amenities, like play ground, dog park, restaurant, ice cream only open certain days. We asked about the play ground and dog park and were offer an "activty" sheet for the kids. Beautiful location but there's a lot of work to do
If you enjoy camping in a parking lot this is the place for you. Sites are between 15-20 feet apart from each other, the camper pad is not ever with the terrain so there’s an uneven step that can be dangerous. Pricing is not consistent, our site was limited lake view, but with all the campers in the parklot the only way to see the lake is to climb on top of camper. Fire pits are about 5 feet from the road, no privacy at all. 5 stars for the half naked soldiers next door lol. No Wi-Fi, sewer pipes just a few feet away from picnic tables, no activities for the kids, no swings, slides jungle gyms…nothing. No sandy beach swim area. Edit: I read your response: pricing is varied. We did not have the site that was secure, another camper was placed there, their cost was less than ours. There should be a refund of the cost since we were no longer in the more expensive site. Or are you just making excuses
When arriving we were greeted with such welcoming arms, we were so excited! This quickly changed after pulling into our site. Amenities are listed for playground, dog park, restaurant, bar, shuffleboard, and more. When inquiring about the playground and dog park I was told they don't have them. The playground needed installed and the dog park did not exist for at least 2 years. This is false advertising and needs to be addressed. The amenities brought us in and do not exist. Items available such as gaga ball and pedal karts were damaged and unsafe. Really could not beat the location, however there is much work to be done.
