Cabrillo Beach

Description

Cabrillo Beach is a historic beach located in San Pedro, Los Angeles, California. It is named after Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, a Portuguese explorer who was the first to sail up the California coast. Cabrillo has two separate beach areas.HistoryCabrillo Beach is a historic beach situated within the small coastal community of San Pedro. Cabrillo Beach is named after Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who was the first European to sail along the coast of California. The city of San Pedro was in consideration of being the host of a major port in Southern California. After much deliberation, the federal government selected San Pedro. Construction of the San Pedro Breakwater began in 1899 for the purpose of protecting San Pedro Bay and the new, major port. Rocks from Catalina Island, 25.1 miles away from the coast of San Pedro, were originally used in the construction of the breakwater. However, due to many problems and set-backs, rocks from Chatsworth, California were transported to San Pedro for the construction of the breakwater. Some of the rocks used weighed about 6,000 to 16,000 pounds. In 1913, Angel’s Gate Lighthouse was built at the end of the breakwater, which was, and still is today, the main entrance to the Port of Los Angeles.

$1 an hour parking. Free aquarium. Park area..... Did I mention tide pools.?? This little gem is amazing.
Nearby free parking in the neighborhood I parked near the Top Gun: Maverick Penny's house. Or park at the beach for cheap $1/hr. Swings and picnic tables on the sand are nice amenities. The long breakwater to the lighthouse keeps the water really calm.
One dollar an hr for parking. Cool beach with swings and playground. Also free wifi. There weren’t too many people , then again I went on a week day. They have showers that close at 6 right side of parking as well as a shower that is open pretty much until the beach closes.
This a beautiful and low beach. If your looking for awesome views and calm setting this is your spot. I love the idea that's they only charge $1 per hour.
Clean Beach has parking in and out on the street if you are lucky to find it. Restrooms were clean, and the other side of Cabrillo Beach is a great place to swim or learn because there are no tide or hard waves. There's also a fishing pier!
You have to pay per hour to park, it's cheap but not worth it. If you park on the hill it's free. The old building used to be a bath house. They still have bathrooms and each side has a shower area, u fortunately some take that to mean clothing optional. Some surf at the beach despite being rocky. In the distance there is a view of the light house which can only be accessed by boat, despite being connected to the beach. Has a good view of the port. Part of sunken city seems to be accessible by the beach.
Time and time again, you just get surprised by the different gems you find in Southern California. What a spectacular beach in San Pedro. The view is breathtaking and you can see the part of Los Angeles from the beach. It's a very quiet spot and I highly recommend anyone to visit this paradise!
Decent fishing and chill beach and pier. A bit dirty... Fishing seems ok. Personally I saw folks take undersized calico bass and halibut. There are fishermen who roll in with 6+ rods per person so I can see fishing here being a little crowded. DNR does not check here, however.
Beautiful beach, was a little windy but that didn't matter.
It’s a beautiful area of San Pedro. We have family there such a quiet, quaint, friendly, beautiful area. We love it!
