Dr Keller from the little interaction I had seemed to be kind and professionally sound with good bedside manner. It was the scheduling office employee that influenced my decision to go elsewhere. Lisa was very abrasive, condescending, argumentative and just overall quite rude on the phone. She should probably be switched to a position that doesn’t entail direct patient/client care.
Went last night to the er, took them over an hour to get a nurse/ doctor in and only thing they said was “we will go head treat you for this” took another 45-1 hour before they ran a test and another hour to even get anything for the pain and discomfort. They discharged me without telling me my results and they were ready 2 hours before I left! Said the doctor said they would call me. Called morning and was told they cannot tell me. They neglected to inform me of what I could have. They put me in a room with blood stained pillow sheet, and they wouldn’t tell me until I got to medical records and they advocated for me and got me a information to find what I have. This is beyond unprofessional! And have fun trying to reach anyone they will never answer.
0 stars. ER on 7/3/23 my daughter broke her ankle on the last day of a trip in northern California. She flew to MCI with it wrapped, ice in baggies from the flight attendants and tylenol. We arrived at LMH ER. They did not ask pain level, offer ice or anything. There were only 4 patients in the waiting room. One woman had an obvious head injury with blood in her hair, on her face and shirt. She had no ice either. I heard them say they'd been waiting 1 1/2 hours. After an hour, I asked if they had an estimated wait time - no they did not and an ambulance was coming in. So we left. Drove 20 min to Ottawa AdventHealth Hospital. Got in right away. The first thing they did was ask pain level and gave her ice. Within 2 hours, she'd been cared for, had an xray, pain meds, doctor made sure pharmacy in Lawrence would be open due to holiday and we were on our way home. Ottawa AdventHealth was wonderful and gets 5 stars. Over the past 30 years, LMH ranked 3 stars. But they keep getting worse. I put them at 0 stars for this interaction. They must do better!
Today there are severe thunderstorms. I live 45mins away. This morning I called to reschedule or cancel my appointment because I didn’t feel safe driving. Shockingly I was reminded of the no show policy. What? Are you freaking kidding me? Needless to say I cancelled and will switch to a different provider who embodies empathy and care
Waited 5.5 hrs with my 11 month old per the request of his pediatrician had a 104 rectal temp triage checked it and she was wonderful we got motrin/Tylenol and nothing else for the remaining 5 hrs we were there. We finally got a room at 9:15pm no bracelet for my son either with his info on it after sitting for another hour we finally left because he needed meds. Not 1 single test was ran, no nurses ever came to talk with us in the room, nothing. I let them know he was on meds every 3 hours for his breathing and low oxygen and we got nothing. I politely said we were leaving I know it's not the nurses fault but come on, they could've sent the janitor in and I would've been impressed. If you have a young child and can make the journey to Children's Mercy I would 100% go there instead.
The most unprofessionally trained health personals who is your homeless love to force and pressure you to sign yourself off refuse a Medicare review and if all else fails the nurses and doctors will biological gas you out with ammonia balls and security intimatation.
You can understand why they are $6 million in debt and their CFO has bailed. Dealing with their Revenue Cycle and billing department is an absolute nightmare, a veritable charlie foxtrot. They contract out to "Assistency," a third-party billing company. However, Assistency can't actually accomplish anything without consulting the hospital. Meanwhile, as you wait for Assistency to "communicate" with LMH, LMH will send you to collections. When you call LMH, they'll inform you that they "don't accept payments" and that "they can't do anything because of policy." They'll add that they "typically send accounts to collections after three months," even though Assistency takes five months to send out a detailed bill. But, there's a "consolation prize": the debt collector they use doesn't report to credit agencies. This is all after they overcharge you by thousands of dollars. My advice is to make sure you call their "estimate" line ahead of time and run the estimate through your insurance and the self-pay amount, then choose the lower figure. Despite LMH knowing exactly how much it will cost, if you don't select the correct option, they will charge you the higher amount. Also, be aware that their estimate line takes 48 hours to get back to you, so avoid emergencies. In the end, it's better to go to Kansas City or Topeka. LMH is going to dig out of that $6 million hole—one overcharged patient at a time.
Absolutely ridiculous. Took my son in for a scheduled procedure. We had an appt for 10. Waited for over 2 hours before they even started anything. There is absolutely no reason to schedule us for 10 and not even start until after noon. If you plan to start at noon then have us come in at 1130-1145. Huge waste of time. We will 100% be going elsewhere in the future. Try keeping a nervous 4 year old calm for 2 hours before a procedure that he's already afraid of.
If you can help it go to prompt care or urgent care or whatever, save yourself spending 2 hours sitting in the waiting room in agony. I got here at noon, it's 2 and I still haven't been seen yet at the emergency department. This has been literally every time I've ever gone here as well, and I've lived in lawrence for 28 years.
Was very happy with the care my husband received here a few years ago during covid. I'm leaving this review because the lower star ratings this hospital had worried me about bringing him in. I can't speak for others, but the doctors at this hospital did right by us and were thorough, logical, and respectful.
