Description

Lee Hall or Lee Hall Mansion is a historic brick plantation house that was built during the period from 1848 to 1859. The community of Lee Hall, Virginia is named for it. It is located near the junction of U.S. 60 and VA 238, near Newport News, Virginia. The 12.29acre property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The listed property includes two contributing buildings: The Main House (open to the public) and the former Kitchen (closed to public, used as staff offices). The nearby community of Lee Hall was named for the house, which was built in 1859 as the home of Richard Decatur Lee, a prominent local planter who was not directly related to the famous Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The mansion was used as headquarters for Confederate generals Joseph E. Johnston and John B. Magruder during the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War in 1862. Nearby is Endview Plantation, a 238-year-old house. Endview was used as a hospital during the Civil War and as a campground during the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War.

I had a lovely time touring the Lee Mansion. Juanita was our tour guide and gave great information over the history of the location and home. Worth a visit! Only open Thurs-Sat 10-4pm
Interesting place, guide was a very pleasant and knowledgeable lady. However, as an aside: People in these reviews Lee-Hall and Endview tend to criticize locations like these because of the horrific institution of slavery and the fact that these places had enslaved people working on them. While philosophically I agree that slavery was horrific, these places are NOT preserved BECAUSE of that. So go complain to the historical commission. If the place is well-preserved, the presentation adequate, then say it. Otherwise, it's not all about YOU. In fact, this fascinating structure existed long after slavery was gone, and it's still worth preserving.
Beautiful land and home. The tour guide was very informative about the many historical events that happen on the land as well as the battle that happen on the land. I would recommend many to check out this huge piece of history and make sure you walk the land.

Very interesting place. Our tour guide was a history teacher and was exceptionally knowledgeable.
Our tour guide was wonderful. She shared so much history and knowledge. It was a great tour.
Very lovely visit -As a photographer I was disappointed at the random “no photos “ rule . I had trouble with the rambling sometimes off topic tour dialog as it was many times too long for the information presented.Still overall worth the visit to see the beautiful reconstruction
Outstanding!! Juanita is the BEST tour guide! She had so many interesting stories about the property and told them in a really fun way. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour.
Had a great tour of the house and learned some history as well. There is a small museum in the basement
