We enjoyed the history. We walked over 2 miles. There were fresh blackberries. We enjoyed walking the town, the virtual geocache, the Earthcache, and the cave info. The bamboo is the tallest we saw other than in Brasil. A $15 charge for the museum, movie, and drive the tour. If you walk there is no charge. The $15 ticket gives attmittance for multiple days. 85°, Sunny
So much history and such a beautiful place. There is something for everyone, hiking, biking, walking, nature, history. Please stay on the trails and bug spray and water bottle are a must.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
I recently visited the Surrender Field observation platform at Yorktown Battlefield with high expectations, hoping to immerse myself in the historical significance of the site. However, my experience left much to be desired, and I am compelled to share my disappointment. One of the most striking issues that I encountered was the overwhelming bird infestation in the observation platform. As I stepped into the observation tower, I was greeted not by the breathtaking view I had anticipated, but rather by a chaotic mess of birds swooping and perching everywhere. Their constant chirping and droppings made it difficult to concentrate on the historical significance of the battlefield. It was evident that proper measures had not been taken to address this issue, which significantly detracted from the overall ambiance of the site. Additionally, the overall maintenance and upkeep of the observation tower and surrounding area was severely lacking. The once beautiful landscape surrounding the tower now resembled an abandoned backyard. Overgrown grass and unkempt landscaping posses a danger to the historic relics onsite. It was disheartening to witness such neglect in a place that should serve as a shining example of historic preservation. As a lifelong visitor of National Parks, I expected more from the National Park Service. The organization's reputation precedes it, and I have always held high regard for their dedication to preserving and maintaining national treasures. However, the observation tower at Yorktown Battlefield fell far short of these expectations. It felt as though the site had been overlooked and neglected, leaving me with a sense of disappointment and a missed opportunity to fully appreciate the historical significance of the location.
Very cool, the battlefield tour is well worth it. Surrender field is beautiful, the monument is okay, but the "capitulated armaments" display is cool.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
Another historical site of Yorktown battlefield, an open field with spring grass and flowering trees, hard to imagine the war hundreds of years ago. Walk up to the brick platform to see the field and listen to audio recordings.
Beautiful place to visit and appreciate the effort and life so many gave for our country.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$11–15
I saw 4 huge rattlesnake skins underneath the surrendered armaments. This is such a beautiful drive.
Absolutely wonderful place to walk. The main path is roughly 5 miles. If you add in the optional loops it ends up being 10.5 miles. I know because I did that today. Update 01/19/2021: It seems that only dog owners are required to clean up after their companions here. It is amazing how much horse poo is on the path now. It is a shame there isn't more respect for this wonderful trail. If you are in a car, you are okay. If you are walking or running you need to keep your eyes open. Shameful.
Yorktown battlefield is a less then exciting battlefield in terms of visual, compared to others I've managed to visit... Surrender Field was the part of the battlefield that I wanted to see the most, and I was hoping there would be more then just the simplistic plagues scattered about the rest, to mark such a significant spot within the revolutionary war, but also the beginnings of The United States. It didn't disappoint, offering a nice viewing platform, with plentiful information, in which you can create a fantastic visual and truly appreciate where you're standing. It was easily my favorite part of the battlefield and if you go to Yorktown and see nothing more of the actual battlefield, you must see this.
A quiet part of the Revolutionary War trail. Features an interesting monument made up of a series of cannons affixed to brick, and a platform/shelter with a view of the field. Information placards are throughout and on the way to the monument, and you may even see some of the local wildlife like sika deer smaller than white tail.
