York County, Virginia is located in the Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown.

Description

Yorktown is most remembered as the site where Lord Cornwallis surrendered to General George Washington, effectively ending the American Revolutionary War. But even before the struggle for independence, the town was a bustling and prosperous 18th century seaport, having been established by the 1691 Act of Ports. Yorktown also witnessed major Civil War activity. Its fortifications held off a Union army attack during the Peninsula Campaign of 1862.

Today, York County is home to about 65,000 residents. York County is part of the Historic Triangle, which includes Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. This diverse region is rich in significant historical sites, as well as world-class cultural attractions, amusement parks and golf courses.

The Board of Supervisors current mission states: “As stewards of the public trust, the Board of Supervisors will maintain and improve the quality of life for all County citizens. The Board will:
• emphasize efficiency, effectiveness, and openness of County government;
• protect the physical, historical, and environmental heritage of the County;
• ensure that growth and development are positive forces on the quality of life;
• value and respect the individual.”
