Always fun to stay in a 100 year old hotel...just don't expect 21st century amenities such as a TV in the room. Bar is fun and food is good, but be aware your stay begins with lugging your bags up a long flight of stairs to the second floor.Rooms: 4/5
Best place around to stay. Good service, good bar, great staff & service. The historic charm of this building and all the decor is awesome! They have brought this hotel back to its old glory of back in the 1800's, yet still has modern amenities to make your stay comfy. We WILL be returning to stay next time we're in the area. If I could rate this a 10 star review, I would! Rooms: Each individually decorated, by members of the community. Charming & comfy! Safety: We were aloud to 'explore' the open parts of the building. They lock the doors after hours so only guest can get in. Food & drinks: Great bar with love music the night we were there. Danishes are made fresh from scratch daily & there's a Starbucks coffee inside. The restaurant opens for breakfast at 9am & is so good. Noteworthy details: Each room has a binder with room descriptions and some history of the hotel, plus TONS of Old pics in the halls, previous owners & much more. So much history inside this place. Beats a motel 6/8 Hands Down, any day!!!
I had the opportunity to stay in Alturas. I opted for the local and historical Niles Hotel. It is a great period hotel with tons of character. A saloon, a restaurant, a coffee/bakery space and a nice hotel too. Overall I’d offer, for the character alone it is worth the visit, for dinner, lunch, the bar saloon, just a coffee and pastry and stay the night on a cozy room. Be part of the history!
Excellent late night stop over. Local oriented but very friendly for out of towners. Lively friendly bar service. If you miss the restaurant, you can still get fried food and pizza there. Highly recommend at least stopping by for a drink and some atmosphere.Rooms: 3/5
This is a quaint hotel in a small town. For the price it can't be beat. I love history so it's especially great, but the rooms are similar to ones from an old western movie with the saloon on bottom and rooms up above. If you like old buildings, history, and things a little more rustic, you will love this place!Rooms: 5/5
For a drink and dinner, this is pretty good. More rib steak and onion rings and sweet potato fries than we could imagine. Plenty of leftovers Service: 5/5
Staff is friendly, rooms are clean and cozy, love the historic look and feel of the hotel and rooms. The only detractor is the loud music due to a bar being on the first floor. They had live music the night we stayed which isn’t conducive to a peaceful nights sleep.
This place was really cool. I talked with the local people and asked them about the hotels said supernatural guests and they seem to lean the haunted side although you will find folks who laugh at you for asking. I stayed in room 16 for 3 days and nights. Im no scaredy cat but that place had one crazy vibe. I didn't see anything but i sure feel like i felt something several times. Go try it out for yourself by yourself scaredy cats
This hotel has lots of charm, as others have said. It's a period hotel, retaining that look and feel from another era, complete with history, decorations, and furniture. It has a lot going for it and it's very cool in many ways. However, in the interest of full disclosure, it is old. And it shows. It needs some TLC. It's musty, it's worn. It needs a refurb. Also, it does not have microwaves, fridges or coffee machines in the rooms. That being said, in the end my wife said it was "OK" and she's pretty picky. The price is right and there isn't much else with any character in Alturas. Just know what you are getting into.
For those looking for an amazing place to stay in Alturas I highly recommend this hotel. The service was so friendly and inviting. The rooms had that old school country feel/look which is good especially in the world we live in today.Rooms: 4/5
