Had a fantastic interaction with the sales associate. I appreciate the help and feedback they were able to provide for my clothing needs. Would highly recommend, great quality of clothing as well!
More a clothing store than a fly fishing shop, but high quality clothing. Very limited fly fishing gear.
We did a full day float trip with Phil, he was an outstanding guide. Both in the boat with streamers, and wading out of the boat with nymphs, Phil had us on the fish. But more importantly, Phil taught us a lot about fly fishing during the day. And not to mention we all had a lot of fun! We would not hesitate to fish with Phil again.
This is more of big chain clothing store for “lifestyle” and image instead of a real fly shop, staffed with regular retail workers instead of actual pros/enthusiasts. Many items have no pricing on them, I guess they just expect you buy things without knowing the cost. Very old fashioned clothing, I guess you can try to call it classic but I find it bland and expensive even when compared to well known fishing brands or Patagonia. flies have no description or size info. Only the pro model waders were on display, that and a few boots. If you’re a tourist looking for a convenient big box bundle experience or just want to dress like you fly fish then this could be for you, it’s conveniently located next to bars, restaurants and other retail shops. As for the true fly fisherman/lady, skip this place and go directly to the Northern Angler’s fly shop, they are much much more knowledgeable and fly fish oriented. Orvis is just an clothing store that also sells mediocre rods and reels
All the great outdoor brands are here! The gentleman at the counter was very kind and let me know he does fly fishing classes throughout the summer and will do river ecology classes in the spring. Got a cool Patagonia hat for a cool price.
Greg Miller was a great guide! He helped me refine my fly fishing skills and taught my girlfriend how to fly fish for the first time! Great conversations, easy going guy and he helped me plan out proposing to my girlfriend! He took so many photos for us and she was totally surprised, he even brought us a gift! Overall perfect experience! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide to help us celebrate our special day! Thanks again Greg, you made this day even better! We can’t wait to do another trip with you! Tyler & Jackie
Always a pleasant experience to come to this location and pick up guides choice flies. The workers are always polite and helpful. Really recommend going here if you need some gear or just want to ask for some advice from the workers who practice what they preach.
This was the first time for my friend Carl and I to go salmon fishing, we went with Mike Dunckley, super nice guy and great guide. We had a great day on the Betsie and hooked several fish even with high water that looked like chocolate milk. We will definitely be back and hopefully Mike will be available. I also can't say enough about the guys at the Orvis shop, we stopped there after our second day fishing and they were incredibly helpful, with stream information and fly selections. We even were able to catch a couple of Brown trout on the Boardman.
We were visiting last weekend without much thought about fishing. We always have a fly rod in the truck and dropped by the orvis store. We spoke with a young gentleman who showed us an easy easy sold us a few flies, and told us a little about how to present them. All of the info panned out and a rookie fly couple landed a few brookies in just a couple hours. it was a beautiful and uncrowded wade. We also had two browns look at our fly. It was great great experience and all of the work was done by a young gentleman working this store. Truly recommended.
The Intro to Flyfishing class at Orvis Streamside is a winner! Its good for folks brand new to flyfishing, as well as more experienced anglers. Everyone learns something valuable. Dave Leonard offers an informative, entertaining presentation on all the essentials to get on the stream and have fun. Located in downtown Traverse City, you can combine this class with a family weekend in the most beautiful spot in the world. Rich Bruder
