Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary in Hartbeespoort, North West Province is one of only eight free-release primate sanctuaries globally.
Primates, such as our squirrel, spider and capuchin monkeys, are given a new lease on life at Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary. Previously raised as household pets, or bred for the pet trade, our monkeys are introduced to a wild world laden with waterfalls, lush vegetation, natural mountain springs and the chance to reside in as natural and environment as possible. Our goal is to give them the opportunity to live as they would in the wild.
Bushbabies Monkey Sanctuary recognizes the importance of community education. Not only are our tours highly informative, but we strive to create awareness toward the benefit of releasing primates into sanctuaries such as our own. Guests leave our tours with the understanding that monkeys do not make good pets, and that they are better suited to a natural, free-living environment.
We look forward to guiding you through our Sanctuary, and trust that you will enjoy the splendour of our natural environment to the fullest.

We've lived here for a year and have done numerous animal experiences from safari to feeding baby rhinos. This was easily our favorite yet! The one hour tour was so fun! We immediately were "pickpocketed" by sneaky James; he went full on hands into my wife's purse and managed to grab a folded brochure out of my daughter's pocket. When you feed the monkeys they all jump around the people to get to the food. Our kids loved it, and my wife and I enjoyed it just as much. The guide was so very nice, and you could tell he really loved his job. This will be a place we come back to for sure. We really want to do the day long one with the elephants and the lions.
My family had a fun and exciting afternoon at the sanctuary. The guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. The facilities were clean, including the restroom.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Had a fantastic day at the Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary. Guides are very friendly and accommodating. And the animals are AMAZING.
I genuinely enjoyed doing the monkey tour. I opted to be in the feeding group and I was so fun to have the monkeys be comfortable enough to climb on you. The tour was informative, very fun and the walkways, the nature and the views throughout WA breathtaking!
My heart melted!!! We did the feeding tour and the monkeys were sooo cute! I highly recommend to do this tour! They live in a huge area where they can move freely, and the people take good care of them. Dog-friendliness: No dogs allowed because of the free roaming monkeys
We loved the experience, a simply must. Although I must say it is quite expensive. The place is well taken care of with very friendly staff. Monkeys is very comfortable with people and have no problem to come up close. One even climbed on me. The only reason for giving only 4 stars is because everybody going in for feeding time pays the same price however not every person gets their own feeding bucked we were 2 and only got 1 and there was a family of 6 and they only got 4 even though all of us paid full price. There is drinks available to buy onnsite at affordable prices. Bathrooms also very clean. And safe parking with a very friendly car guard also there.
A lovely outing with my toddler. Quite a walk around so maybe not recommended for kids under 3. A great morning out and we loved the interaction with the monkeys and lemurs.Visited onWeekendWait time30–60 minReservation recommendedNo

Absolutely amazing and would recommend this experience. And our tour guide made it more interesting with all the story's and information that he shared while giving the tour.
I was very skeptical when my wife booked online as it was very expensive. Within 5 minutes of being in the monkey sanctuary I had changed my mind. It was worth every cent and more. We took the additional option to feed the monkeys and they surrounded us and were literally eating out of our hands. Our guide was fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of the hour tour. Keep up the good work and we’ll definitely be back
