Thabaledi Game Lodge

About

Eco-tourism and Bow Hunting Luxury Game Lodge

Description

Thabaledi which means Mountain of the Stars in Tswane welcomes you to the heart of the African Bushveld.

Beautiful dawns rising over the silhouetted thorny bushveld offers breath-taking views of the not-to-distant Waterberg mountains.

As the day breaches to its maximum and the sun looms bright in the sky there are many enthralling adventures that await you.

As you embark on your daily activity you may encounter variable species: Steenbok, Grey Duiker, Warthog, Impala, Nyala, Kudu, Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Eland, Zebra, Gemsbuck, Blesbuck and Giraffe.

Thabaledi is a bird-watchers paradise right on your door-step of your chalet - day or night.

Some spectacular species as: Helmeted Guineafowl, Swansens Franklin, Red Winged Starling, Red & Yellow Billed Hornbills, Red Chested Coocoo, Woodlands Kingfisher, Violet Woodhoepoe, Longtailed Shrike, African Paradise Flycatcher, Black Shouldered Kite, Jackal Buzzard, Pale Chanting Goshawk, Greater Kestrel, Giant Eagle Owl, Pearl Spotted Owl, Barn Owl, African Scops Owl and many many more.

Twilighted evenings, sitting by the lodge sees you experiencing the extraordinary sounds of the bushveld: jackal calling in the distance, the beautiful kri-trrrrr of the strikingly vibrant blue Woodland Kingfisher as they dive into the pool.

As dusk surrounds you, you will be bewildered by magnificent game that comes to greet you a good evening in and around the lodge. As you sit sipping on a Strawberry Daiquiri at our bar, be amazed by the graceful Nyala herds edging their way towards the lush grass encircling the bar and pool area.

As the night falls, you take your seat upon our game viewer and your anticipation of encountering the abundant bushveld nightlife starts to overwhelm you, you realise - as you slowly exit the lodge you are engulfed by the green eyes of the Impala and Nyala watching your every move. Further along your evening driving drive you could encounter nocturnal species such as: Caracal, Jackal, Porcupine, Genet, Brown Hyena and maybe a rare glimpse of our illusive resident leopard.

After such an alluring day you retreat back to your luxury air-conditioned chalet to relax further in your private lapa feeling the ambiance of the dazzling flickering fire.

Deserves a 0 rating. Disgusting toilets. Badly run. Good maintenance staff. Electricity switches on and off. No water from 5pm until we left the following day. The owner of this establishment seems like he is just in it for money. The management is clueless. Facilities are outdated. Definitely feels like false advertising. There is a huge bug and spider problem.Giant spiders in rooms. Unkept and dusty place. No one is ever at reception. We basically wasted fuel on a 2 and a half hour drive. Only to get there and feel like we were ripped off. We leave our comfortable homes and pay to experience a good time, not to have our holiday wasted.
We booked a few of the houses on offer expecting a relaxed bush experience but there was nothing relaxing about this place. The place had no water for a few days. The two people responsible for managing the place did not have a plan to get water to the houses. We requested to talk to the owner of the place on the phone but the manager did not allow it. Eventually they provided water in 20L containers to flush the toilets. The place is dirty and not maintained well. They deserve a zero rating for facilities and service. Avoid this place.
A wonderfully peaceful weekend in the bush. Lots of spoor with a giraffe, blouwildebeest & other big game sightings. Friendly staff, great private ablution campsites, rock pools, and lots of bird species. A few small things that need attention but nothing that would stop us from visiting again.
This place is an absolute disgrace!! I wish I could rate 0 stars. We booked 4 chalets in total for the long weekend of 7th-10th April 2023. From the day we arrived we experienced problems with all of the chalets, there was no water at all... Had to plead and plead with management for them to even try and sort it out, some of the air-conditioners were not working, that same day in the evening and the next day we had no hot water and we were traveling with kids and old people and it made things very difficult for everyone. The next day one of the chalets had a burst main water pipe, the chalets itself was in terrible condition and looked very dirty as if not cleaned and maintained for a while. The white bedding was brown especially when you open the covers and look at the bottom foot part area. Even the appliances were filthy! We were forced to boil water on the stove because the kettles were disgusting! Don't get me started on the toilet pans.. With bad stains in every toilet it was just revolting! Even some of the basin taps were not working. You do not run a business like this.. We had asked several times to speak to the owner and asked for his number but the manager just ignored us. Up to this day 18/04/2023 we are still waiting for the owner to get back to us. I would never recommend this place to anyone! It's daylight robbery. We work hard for our money and this place can't even provide a basic necessity also seeing as we paid a lot for the accommodation. They need to be investigated.
We booked this place while in NZ and we did this based on reviews. I strongly recommend not wasting your time with this establishment. Badly managed and a total waste of time driving to this useless place. You are better off watching a streaming service at home in a cool dry environment away from cob webs and no running water provided you have solar for electricity. The bar is great but they most likely water down the drinks because it didn't make me forget the Arsenal draw against Liverpool. On a serious note, this place is a hoax with fake photos of playgrounds and TVs in the rooms.
Try to avoid if you can. The campsite ablutions are private but probably haven't been cleaned or maintained in weeks or months. The gas geyser wasn't working and we had to manually start the geyser. Toilet had to be repaired. Ash gets disposed in the veld in the morning which is okay but the workers don't check if the coals are cold thus they started a veldfire we had to put out. Tennis court is advertised but unusable, same for the children's jungle gym. The main pools was clean but not the one at the campsite.
We were a group of 34 with 11 kids. This was supposed to be a fun family getaway but it turned sour when the kids got out the pool and needed to shower. There was no water to take a bath or flush the toilets. This place is neglected and badly managed. The images about this place are from a time when it was good. Most likely the new owners prefer to just collect money and not worry about yhe satisfaction of their guests. Not sure how this place gets 5 stars from anyone. Most likely fake reviews because this place comes highly avoidable if you are human. Live long and prosper!
We traveled from NZ and booked 3 nights at Thabaledi with family. The reviews for this place was excellent which makes me question what has changed because it was nothing like the pictures. This place was dirty and had no running water. Electricity sometimes switched off randomly. It was 31 degrees and the air-conditioning in the house was not working. They could not fix it. There was no power to the lounge. The shop on site did not have bottled water for drinking which makes it tricky when you have little kids. What a waste of money, the manager on site promised to give back 50% of our payment but once you leave they don't care.
Overall a terrible experience. The place is not tidy and when you take a closer look you're able to notice things like the bedding that has stains on it. One member of our group was bitten by bed bugs. The towels had a musty smell, like they haven't been washed in a long time. The bathrooms are not up to scratch. Toilets had terrible stains in it, enough to make your stomach turn. While we accept that we're in a bush setting, there is no excuse for any place to be that kind of state. Accessibility to things like clean drinking water, toilet paper and clean towels should be a given at any accommodation, especially when there isn't easy access to any shops. Stay away from this place if you value cleanliness, comfort and your sanity.
Do not visit if you expect great customer service and clean facilities. You will be met with a condescending rude tone from Management. Spider world,If you are comfortable sleeping with 8+ huge spiders starring at you on the walls of the room every night then go right ahead. Noteworthy details: Let me start with the directions to the "Lodge". It is located down a horrible gravel road that you travel on for 25+ minutes and the road markings are not very clear for you to find the gravel road. Good luck trying to call the Lodge and getting their help with directions, as they DO NOT answer their phones. Then we finally made our way there with the help of the local folks directing us and got booked in to our chalet. The chalet appeared clean and smelled fresh upon entering but to my horror there were a multitude of huge spiders to be found all throughout the chalet and spotted 3 in the bed that "Has been cleaned for us" and as a mom traveling with a 9 month old you can only imagine my anxiety over his safety. This was raised with the Management the next morning as we were not notified pre arrival and advised to carry repellent. The response I got from the Manager was "Ignore the spiders they are part of the Deco". I was beyond appalled by this response and drove into town to purchase a repellent the next day. Day 2 or our stay the water went offt in our chalet in the morning and by night time still had not returned. Management made no effort to assist or even notify us what the issue was. We then went to the Management office in the rain at night to seek clarity and assistance and were met with the most condescending and off putting young manager the female who simply stated " Ek kan nie water toor nie" and " If you decide to check out now,we will re-imburse you for 1 days stay",this being 9pm on a cold rainy evening. The facility has No backup water or electricity measures and the attitude from Management really sucks. To say my stay was horrible would be a real understatement. I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless you are looking to throw money down the drain for free.
