Goodwood Magistrate Court

Conveniently located on Voortrekker Road Goodwood, this court was quite easy to find via GPS. It is part of the Magistrates’ Courts system- the lower courts designed to deal with the less serious criminal and civil cases. These are the often first ports of entry into the justice system and are guided by the Magistrate Court Act 32/1944. Goodwood magistrate court has quite a wide jurisdiction stretching from Bothasig to Montague Gardens, Pinelands, Goodwood, Langa, Elsie's river and Bishop Lavis. Given the profile, this court is kept pretty busy. The building itself is quite difficult to research- year of construction etc. I'd estimate it was built around the 70's or 80's- could be older.. or younger The ground floor is wheelchair accessible but the courts are on the higher floors though- not sure how access to those floors is provided for the differently abled- did not see a lift- Old building. The staff were efficient enough, especially the clerk that gave me information on the court rolls; and the courts are clearly marked- easy to find. Will find out more about their functioning some other time. Can't know it all just from one first visit

Was there for a file transfer in May, it's November still no assistance. Was told my case is at Bishop Lavis Court, they confirmed the case was never sent. It has been a month of me calling daily and leaving my details for no one to get back to me because their switchboard is broken and not transferring.

Absolutely adore the humans working at this court. Very friendly staff who are always willing to assist. Signs which show you which court is which. Only issue which keeps it from getting 5 starts is the fact ghat it is a old building and when it was built no one thought of persons living with disabilities being able to move around the court. A, B and C court is on the first floor which means you need to take a flight of stairs. If you are an accused person, a complaint, a witness or even a staff member and you are not mobile to be able walk up stairs, you would not be able to attend the court session. This is something which needs to be looked at.

I don't usually write reviews however I feel that I need to thank the people that work at the Goodwood Magistrate office Children's court The service was amazing and we did not have to wait long at all. Thank you to everyone who works there, they all deserve 5 stars
