Set under spreading marula trees at the foot of the Waterberg mountains, Itaga Private Game Lodge is in a malaria-free area, less than two hours from Johannesburg. Set in the 12 000 hectare Mabalingwe Nature Reserve, home to the Big Five. The spacious thatched main Lodge is open on most sides with a lounge, bar with viewing deck and romantic dining area. Thatched, cosy Chalets are decorated in classic African style and have a private pergola covered patio, most have a screened outdoor bush shower. Pool and deck overlooking a floodlit waterhole. Rhino, elephant, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, warthog, antelope and bountiful birdlife are spotted on game drives with experienced rangers

This was an Amazing one night break away from the city life. So peaceful and quite. Itaga is a stunning place if you want to switch off. The staff and management is so wonderful and friendly from the moment we arrived. The Game drive was one of our best. We saw so many animals. The food and accommodation was Tops. A must visit and we will be back again. Thank you to Itaga and their amazing team. You made us feel special. Thank you.
Great lodge for an escape from work. But it is not luxury at all. The place is a bit old and run down in some places, especially the rooms. They have great service, but the place is not luxurious at all. The rooms are minimal with limited views. The food is definitely luxurious and super tasty. The lounge where you can chill and also have breakfast/lunch/dinner and the area around the pool are luxurious From the main Mabalingwe gate off the tarred R516 the road will be gravel for 9km. Very good gravel road though. Rooms: Plumbing in the bathroom needs to be improved. The taps are old and not mixers. So it is difficult to get the right balance of hot and cold water. The toilet in room 2 didn't close properly after flushing. So sometimes the water would continue leaking and making a noise. The views from the rooms are limited because the rooms are at the base of a slope. Nearby activities: The lodge offers morning and afternoon game drives for R350 pp per drive. Lots of animals to see including leopard. Otherwise most of the other activities e.g., adventures with Elephants are outside the lodge and reserve. The lodge can make bookings for you but you will have to drive out of the reserve to get there. Safety: Very safe place. Although during our first night a snake was found in the garden just outside the dinner lounge. Lots of lighting between the rooms and the lounges for night walking. Walkability: The only walking paths available are between the rooms and the lounges and the parking. So you can't walk around the property for a stroll. Unless you don't mind walking into the bushes. The rooms are at the base of a slope, and the bushes are behind the rooms. Food & drinks: 5/5 for food and drinks!!! The most impressive thing about Itaga! We enjoyed every meal we had during breakfast and dinner. They also sell lunch platters for two consisting of 2 types of biltong, 3 types of cheese, nuts, crackers, and two sandwiches of chicken and mayo.
A fantastic bushveld experience with 5 star service !! The staff are excellent , food and beverage was great. The game drive was professionally done, and there was plenty animals to see. Well done to the Itaga team!!Rooms: 5/5

Very beautiful and serene surroundings , the service was excellent , all of their staff members offered us excellent service, very friendly staff and always there for us and ready to serve with a smile. Our Chef Welleminah's ‍ food was out of this world , the taste and the presentation. Rooms comfortable and clean. Enjoyed the massage ‍ Our guide for Game drive was overly friendly and made sure we get to see most animals including elephants. I will surely visit them again

I spent my 36th birthday there. My partner and Althi, the manager, cooked up an amazing surprise for me when we mentioned it was to celebrate my special day. The staff was amazing and friendly, the food was excellent, the rooms beautiful with the outside shower to top it off. I loved every moment spent there. Thank you Althi and your team- Simon, Alec, Rose and , our stay was exceptional
