Ngong Hill is a bush lodge in Mabalingwe Nature Reserve near Bela Bela built on a slope at the foot of a hill. It is an exclusive and private retreat 90 minutes from Pretoria in a 14 000 hectare reserve of soft rolling hills, streams, gorges, bushveld and grasslands. The malaria-free reserve is host to the “big five” and also hippo, giraffe, hyena, crocodile, kudu, mountain rhebuck, nyala, wildebeest, eland and sable to name but a few of the 36 species of wildlife. For the bird lovers there are more than 250 species of bird to be spotted.
The name “Ngong Hill” derives from the opening line of Karen Blixen’s “Out of Africa” novel where she writes, “I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong hills.” At Ngong Hill, for a while, you can also have a farm in Africa and experience the peace and tranquility of a private safari experience, un-obscured panoramic views of an African wilderness and let Nature dictate the pace and quality of life.
