Kruger National Park, Punda Maria Rest Camp

The camp itself is wonderfully situated and has a quiet, relaxing mood about it. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Stayed in a family unit which was lovely but in need of some maintenance. Game around the camp was plentiful, but some of the gravel roads surfacing severely corrugated which detracts from the animal spotting somewhat this seemed to be common problem throughout the north of the park

Rooms are very basic. Quite dark, like many older thatched chalets. But beds were comfortable single beds only, all windows have insect/monkey screens on them and rooms are air-conditioned. The generator on site wasn't working though - so no aircon during load-shedding. The camp has lots of trees, and a nice pool, so it is a pleasant place to relax between game drives.

Good and neat place to relax. Usually generators were used during load shedding but it’s not working when we were there. Absolute dark, plan a proper hand held battery lights. Restaurant inside was ok but a small shop inside restaurant has everything like mini super market. Highly recommended. Hide watch near by is a bonus, can encounter animals very close by.

Cannot believe what has happened to the Kruger. Accommodation in Punda Maria is literally falling apart. It’s beyond wanting a nice room - this is at the level of safety hazard. Pretty sure health and safety need to inspect this. Stay away.Rooms: 1/5

Stayed in family cottage, which is not cheap. Unit was falling apart, literally a hole in the thatched roof. Aircons very noisy, shower had no taps.. the only reason I’m giving it a 2 is because of the wonderful pool and location of the camp itself. Unfortunately its quite common now throughout Kruger that things are not up to standard. It’s such a shame.

Family cottages are very dated and not in a great condition. Aircon units are very noisy, the generator during load shedding also did not work. During our stay, we housed a bat in the upstairs bedroom, I would not recommend sleeping upstairs when there's a bat around. There is a small shop with essentials as well as a small restaurant. The restaurant only serves sandwiches during load shedding.

Punda maria Camp appears a bit tatty now days - behind the dining area on the road towards the tented section the wooden slats have fallen off the fence. The back area looks untidy, scrappy and dirty. Does the camp Manager walk around the camp everywhere regularly and notice the decline of the camp appearance?

We had a great stay at punda Maria well done to Garth Holt and his team with regard to assistance and friendliness. SAN Parks should how ever look into the up keep of their tented huts

E have never slept at Punda Maria, so can’t comment on accommodation. The restaurant is ok and the shop also. We use this camp as a stop to buy items for Sirheni

Our fixed tent was badly in need of repairs but it was a lovely, private spot enclosed by trees and bushes. We will be back.Rooms: 2/5
