Papas Restaurant
"Pappas is an award winning, family owned restaurant located on the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton. We believe in fresh, quality produce and innovative, well-presented dishes. While we still offer a wide-variety of traditional Greek dishes, our Mediterranean menu has evolved with the history of the restaurant spanning over three decades."

Love what they did with the “Street Food” section, so much more inviting and so sat down outside for the first time. The street food options are so much more affordable than sitting down inside the restaurant and love this option for quick easy smaller portions. The freshly squeezed juice are so tasty &refreshingFood: 4/5
We celebrated our 12 year anniversary here. Simply the best Seafood Platter in Joburg. The mussels were absolutely creamy and mouth watering. A very generous portion of prawns and langoustine served with crispy calamari and soft, tender fish. The waiter was fast, efficient and friendly. The owner came around and introduced himself and even offered a cigar. A warm and inviting atmosphere with a lovely view of the square. I enjoyed the sunshine peeping through the patio plants. Made me feel like I was somewhere in the Mediterranean.
Pappas is amazing. We had ribs here and I had hot neutella chocolate, crispy potatoes and creamed spinach. Top tier. We are coming back.Food: 5/5
Very nice setup with amazing views if seated on the outside.Loved the complimentary starter and the Strawberry daiquiri was delicious best i have had, We really thought we off to a good start once we received that but unfortunately the experience left much to be desired. We ordered the prawn & mussel curry and the prawn pasta. The prawn and mussel curry - let's just say it was in no form of a curry, had a coconut cream and pepper taste which left a bad after taste in my mouth ..the combination did not work for me. The prawn pasta - the pasta was cooked well and it had a good portion of prawns, however it was very watery and lacked flavour. We mentioned our disappointment as the waiter cleared our table and he did bring a complimentary dessert.
Food was good. My steak Camembert was wonderful, perfectly cooked. Nice ambiance overlooking the square. There was also dancer who entertained and plate throwing. They have a mixed choice food for every palate.Food: 4/5
UPDATE: 19 March 2023 We visited this restaurant on 19 March and very sad to say that the food and the service was disappointing. The chicken was dry and bland, the prawns was really bad. We asked for peri peri and it definitely wasn't like our other visits. The service was extremely slow, we waited an hour and 15 minutes for our meal. Unfortunately I have to change our rating We definitely won't be back
Food is amazingly delicious. Price is acceptable. Hosts are gracious. Restaurant located on second floor right behind Mandela’s bronze statue.
One of the most well decorated restaurants in Joburg. We sat outside so we could feel the fresh breeze. Service was excellent and that's about the most I can say about Pappas. The food was a bit on the disappointing side as it was not so pleasing to the eye in relation to the restaurants' supposed upmarket statue and to be honest, a bit over priced. The slow cooked lamb looked unattractive as if the person preparing it didn't put effort, the mashed potatoes were a side I had to pay extra for, bummer. The beef ribs came with a untidy looking coleslaw and it didn't taste good. The chicken strips were okay but I'm sure a improvements can be made. The one thing I can say I enjoyed about the food though were the fries, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Look, the drinks and service are excellent but the food needs a lot of improvement. I eat with my eyes so if the meal isn't attractive at first glance I'm immediately put off, especially if I'm paying a lot of money. I'll give them a 4 out of 10.
The place a great to hang around as it has a great vibe, but the food is not that great, very oily and not much flavor put in it, don't like food to smell like it's yet tobe spiced or something Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly Parking: You have to find parking in Mandela Square Wheelchair accessibility: Through the mall but limited sitting options Dietary restrictions: If booked for events, they can't change anything on their set manu to accommodate people with specific dietary restrictions
Restaurant looks great from the outside so we decided to pay a visit for dinner. Not the warmest of welcomes from the waitress at the door however our serving waiter was very sweet. The Leffe beer was great and cold, although drinks was way overpricedR42 a can of iced tea. Complementary starter was good, some pita bread with himmus and a nice fish roe dip. We ordered meze platter that has the option to choose between 5 plates. Only really enjoyed two of them thoroughly Feta and spinach phyllo parcel and the halloumi. The falafels were quite dense, meatballs were dry. The rest of the plates were meh. The house chilli is what made the food taste alot better, out of this world. The beef pita my son had was nice, he enjoyed it with a side of feta which was quite tasty. The dessert was meh as well, custard did not quite hit the spot and had a weird after taste. Very pricey for the food you get. Service was good but food a let down. An average experience, but not worth the price. Vegetarian options: Plenty of them Kid-friendliness: Not really Parking: Parking available at Sandton City, and the square
