Avis Car Rental

We rented a car on the 10th May in 210 State Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. I reserved the car for 10 am. We arrived around 9:15 am. We have been greeted by Anthony and his female colleague. I was told that my car was not even there yet as I was too early. They told me that my car would be ready at 10:30 am even though I reserved a car for 10 am. They forced me to upgrade from Mid size to small SUV because according to them there was no other car ready in mid size. I took the upgrade as I had to leave and already there I was very disappointed by the service as I was not given any option than to upgrade! I was not treated with sincerity and especially the female colleagues was not friendly. The worst part is when I picked up the car at the parking garage I was given from Anthony a park card to exit the garage which was supposed to be free of charge. I was given the wrong one and at the exit the machine wanted 105USD from me! I had to run all over upstairs again to get the right card as I was handed the wrong one. No apology from their side! In the end I was able to leave the garage at 10 am which is almost an hour delayed to when I arrived there. I could have just waited then until 10:30 and I would not have so many extra costs due to the incompetence of the employees!

BE AWARE!! Do NOT make reservations with this company if you do not have a credit card. Avis does NOT make it clear that they do NOT take debit cards ONLY credit card. Their front desk informed about this AFTER they took our deposit. Completely delayed a time sensitive project that we had planned. Never had this situation happen to us with any other car rental company anywhere. Want to make it known that I was here on Saturday, March 21st, 2018 at 2:00PM the younger front desk person is on her phone talking to her friend while the Avis work walkie talkie makes several attempts to get ahold of her and she ignores it. 10 minutes later she decides to pause her personal phone conversation to get back to the Avis work walkie talkie at this point she gets no respond. Safe to assume her coworker got annoyed with her. 10 minutes later her coworker is forced to leave his station to come and see why she is not answering the walker talkie. He needed to confirm something about a customer.

Last minute, one day weekend rental. Check-in took literally three minutes. No surprise fees or costs. The car was ready to go when I arrived, and it was very clean inside (outside needed a wash but don't care). Unlike other rental places, Saturday hours allow for flexible pick/up and drop of times (7am -7pm). The garage was simple to exit and enter, with a prepaid card provided by Avis. Plus, you don't get gouged on the provided EZ Pass ($3.95 per day, no prior activation needed, good for all toll systems). Drop off was just as convenient: took 3 minutes, and I expect to get reimbursed for the extra gas that I pumped in. Would definitely use them again.
