This is one of my favorite battle sites west of the Mississippi River. Unique to this site is that the land on which the battle was fought, and on which there is an annual reenactment, has remained in the same family since the end of the war. The battlefield committee and Trans Mississippi Volunteer Infantry Battalion has done a tremendous job revamping the event and brought fresh air into a decades old reenactment weekend. I highly recommend going to spectate, or even join up and fight!

Loved the reenactment. The weather was cold and rainy so we were told there is normally a LOT more reenactors participating. We plan on going back again and hopefully the weather will cooperate next time.
