Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn

Had breakfast here after trying the Esalen night bathing experience. This place is warm, cosy, quirky, great food and friendly service. One of the more memorable stops on our California Roadtrip!

Nice place to stay in Big Sur. A very charming setting, with historic wooden buildings. Beware that there is no reception or wifi, so ideal if you want to completely switch off from the outside world. Could be a bit noisy as rooms are right next to the main road. Breakfast not included, slightly disappointed not to have any complimentary water, tea or coffee in the room.

I look forward to having dinner at Deetjen's with every visit to Big Sur. The setting is absolutely beautiful situated among the large redwood trees along Hwy 1. The building is historic, charming and reflects everything I love about early Big Sur. They offer excellent food with most of the vegetables locally grown and the seafood fresh from the area. They have a good list of wines to compliment your meal. If you are going to be in the Big Sur area, be sure and make a reservation. They serve breakfast too.

I spoke with Becca on the phone to reserve two rooms in June and have never received more horrible customer service. She said since we would be attending a wedding in the area that we could not reserve two rooms for a family a five, none of which are in the wedding party. We wanted to enjoy Big Sur and historical hotel since we have never been to the area.
