It's open for camping and exploring! We had an absolutely amazing weekend under the full moon April 27-29, 2018. I found this place to be perfect, the shower house was clean and we'll maintained structure wise. Wish there were more options to buy firewood in the area. Had no clue Superman was apparently from Metropolis, that was a bonus! 718BrewPub was an awesome stop for beer food and coffee in the morning. Super helpful and gave us the best recommendations on local exploring!

This place is pretty interesting. It has a really rich history behind the old Fort. The buildings are all restored and look really cool. The park gives you several different spots to loom out over the river and to check out the big blue bridge. Great place to take pictures and to enjoy a nice sunny day.

Nice campground, clean and quiet. Flat sites and plenty of shade. Shower house/restrooms were well maintained. Very easy to get to/from I-24. The Hucks gas station in Metropolis has firewood. Metropolis isn't much of a town, but there is a grocery store and several fast food options within a 2 minute drive of the park and Paducah is only 10 minutes away. The Fort is a neat replica right on the Ohio River and inside the visitor center is a nice museum with plenty of information on the fort's history. If nothing else it's a decent spot to stop and stretch your legs on a road trip and if you need a place to stay in the area, pitching a tent here for $20 beats a Budget Inn or Motel 6. On your way out, roll through the main square in Metropolis to see the Superman statue.

Very nice shady sites. Stayed one night in middle of week so no one was around. $20 a night for power. Did not use shower.

We visited for the first time this past year for the "Encampment" and all the festivities involved with that. And, I must say, Fort Massac State Park is a hidden (at least to me and others I've talked to) jewel in our area. The park is very clean and spacious. I love that they have maintained all the historic buildings and sites while still adding modern amenities. They have playgrounds and activities for our young kids. And, lots of neat facts and artifacts that interest the older ones. Our four kids loved the Encampment!
