This place use to be so good, tonight I watched three different customers leave without their food after waiting nearly an hour after ordering to go either via phone or online. Staff was indifferent. It wasn't like this place was busy, only two tables... they at least got soup!

The food is poor and expensive.

Excellent - has some of my favorites that are difficult to find elsewhere (Beef Negamaki). Also, good Japanese beer selection and cocktails.

This is probably actually a 4 1/2 star rating... 5 is pretty high praise and we have only ordered from here once so far. My wife and I were wanting to get some sushi and happen to live in South St Paul. We came across Haiku during a google maps search, it was nearby, the reviews all seemed positive, and their menu had some nice variety. We ordered a spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and 2 chef specials for take out (a service we really appreciated). The rolls were ready in 20 minutes, it was about 7:30pm on a Saturday night and the restaurant seemed energetic and bustling. The service was polite and informative, albeit busy, and the prices were fair. Upon opening up our stapled brown bag of underwater delicacies, we were immediately impressed with the freshness of the sushi and the vibrancy of the bluefin tuna atop one of the chef special rolls. My wife stated "this might be the best sushi I've ever had". It was a very nice variety of rolls and all were very tasty with balanced flavors.
This is a great place to check out, especially if you live just south of the Cities. The take-out option is wonderful if you want some freshly prepared high quality sushi for a night in, or to bring to a party, or sneak into a movie theater. The prices are similar to what you might find at a grocery store, but the quality and flavor are a huge upgrade from that fare. Check it out, it is a hidden Gem in the area.

HOLY COW, SO GOOD!
A friend of mine recently flew in from LA, one who happens to be a bit of a "sushi connoisseur" himself. We were hungry and feeling like taking a chance so we ventured to this little new place I'd driven by a hundred times on hwy 110 (I live in West St. Paul). I warned him of course, I mean how good can a "Japanese Bistro" be in a strip mall next to a gym?! All I can say is we GREATLY underestimated this "book" by it's "cover". Atmosphere/decor rivals some of the upper crust bars in Minneapolis, service was excellent, and the food... wow. Had salmon straight-up along with several roles the server recommended (spicy salmon, some yellow fin, etc.). The only thing better than the presentation was the taste! My friend said this easily compared to a number of his favorite joints and at nearly half the price.
If you're in the St. Paul area and love sushi, CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! They're very new and could definitely use some business (lots of open tables when we were there). Can't say enough about it!
