Worth visiting place for families with kids. Wide range of exhibits like otters, few desert reptiles, birds etc. Few exhibits like 1920 cars and fire engines, barns , wood houses etc.take back you back to 1900s . Nice walking trails. You can hear birds chirping sounds all around the trail. Front desk is super friendly.

Fabulous museum, even in the "winter". I'd never been to this museum and I've lived in Oregon most of my life. We spent almost 4 hours here and enjoyed every minute. The amount of indoor to outdoor exhibits and experiences are just right and offer a unique look at life in the high desert - both past and present. There's a great mix of art, science, animals, and activities for all ages. The people that work/volunteer here are caring, well-educated, and clearly love what they do. It shows in every presentation. We partook of the Raptor show and the River Otter feeding while there; both were delightful. The amount of Native American art and the clothing collection are quite impressive; I was stunned that there was that much on display. The "homestead" and sawmill with outbuildings found on the property really show what life was like in the late 1800's/early 1900's. The "family" living there was a wealth of information and highly entertaining. I really want to go back this summer to see what else they offer when the weather is bit warmer. Another plus - the outside pathways are paved/bricked and very easy to navigate. I walked more than a mile and a half with no trouble and it's not usually something all that easy for me. There are plenty of places to stop and sit and rest to take it all in. Thouroughly lovely day.

This is a great place to visit! It is also a great place to bring children to see the otters and if the bobcat is out to see her too. They have a bird of prey sanctuary and a gift shop to buy T-shirts and souvenirs. This place also has a World War II Japanese internment camp display and information as well as a native American display too. The museum has parts located outside as well as inside. There are many different displays here and so much to see, plan to spend a good amount of time to take your time to see the entire museum, it is well worth it.

My kids loved it! I will definitely come back next time we are in the area. There was a great play area my one year old daughter could enjoy. I was also happily surprised to find out they had animals. The otters were adorable.

Beautiful cultural and natural museum. If your want to learn about and experience Central Oregon, the high desert, and beauty of the region, this place is a must see. Give yourself two or three hours. Be prepared to walk around outside as well. I love the shows and changing exhibits. Great for families.
