Watched the volunteers carving the animals for the Carousal over the past 3 to 4 years at their same site prior to the fantastic new building its in on the same place. This was the location of an old hotel near the waterfront. This building is so awesome that after we arrived we stayed for hours and had a very enjoyable afternoon. We visited the gift shop and went downstairs to watch the new animals being carved. We were shown the way the wood used is constucted to make each part of the animals. There was a lot to see and quite interesting. My grand daughter who' s 14 y/o had a fun day and rode the Carousal. I would recommend any family to spend a afternoon enjoying the Carousel. There are 30 animals, real and fantasy, mounted on the Carousel and there will be 22 more animals finished for the ride in the future. So if you go tomorrow and plan on coming back again and again to see the updates.

A wonderful labor of love that you can feel when you are there talking to some of the volunteers. A 15 year project that has culminated in a beautiful carousel. Seeing the new animals in progress in the carving room is very cool!

I love this place !! I went 8 or 9 years ago when they were still carving the animals for the carousel. We met the carvers - all men and women who love the craft of the carving and what they're creating. We went into their workshop and heard their stories - each of the animals has a story behind it from the family who carves them. We even saw a man that we recognized as a Carver from years before and he still there working on the newer animals . There's so much work that goes into these, it is truly amazing. Today we rode the carousel - only $2 per person. I rode one that I remember as just plain wood from years ago so is really beautiful to see in it's finished form.I really recommend you get the Guide who will take you downstairs in the elevator to the workshop. There is also what looks like a carving Workshop behind the gift shop but that's different so you definitely want to take the elevator downstairs as there is so much more to see. There is a small food court in the carousel area and so much more to see throughout the building. Definitely a wonderful place for anybody to visit. A must.

Perhaps I am a bit biased as my father-in-law worked on some of the engineering of the carousel. The facility is beautiful and extremely well designed. It is a safe environment for all ages and familes can find quite a bit to enjoy. There are also spaces to rent if you are planing a personal or company event. They have a food court, offer a tour that takes the group into the basement level, a small museum showing how the individual carousel rides were carved, and a very nice gift shop. It is something that this entire area can really be proud of.

This was a delightful experience to share with our 4 1/2 year old granddaughter! The Carousel itself and the building are just stunning. What is really exceptional though, is all the volunteers and artists who made it happen and continue to do so. A token is $2 which isn't unreasonable. All the staff (volunteers) were friendly, helpful and knowledge about the project. Great experience - I had a perma-smile the whole time!
