J Landress Brass Llc

You'd be excused for assuming that Landress Brass, in midtown Manhattan, would simply be prohibitively expensive and elitist. But that couldn't be any further from the truth! Every tech and staff I've ever interacted with there is down-to-earth and welcoming, and they'll be thorough and honest with you in talking about the work your horn needs. Not pushy or patronizing at all (which, for me, as a non-classical musician, is pretty important) and the prices are fair. The work is solid and they don't try to gouge you. They're equipped to handle the smallest dents to the biggest overhauls, though my personal experience has only been with moderate repairs (sousaphone; soldering, valve work, dent removal, lead pipe realignment). I haven't tried any of the other NYC shops because I haven't had to! Their specialty stuff is definitely trumpet-heavy, so I actually don't come here to shop for tuba/sousaphone gear, though they do have basics. And mostly Marcinkiewicz mouthpieces if that's your jam.

I had my vintage Bach Stradivarius repaired here. Minor restoration and dent removal/polishing. Work was top notch and I would recommend them to anybody looking for a brass instrument repair.

They have all a brass player needs! They aligned my valves, and now I feel like Superman on the trumpet! Who knew a few tweaks could mean so much?! Friendly, professional, efficient and freaking awesome!
