Johnny's is an upscale steakhouse with the traditional chophouse fare, but I didn't feel the quality of my meal justified the high price tag.
Italian Steakhouse is an accurate description of the venue, plenty of Sinatra playing in the background, staff with formal white shirts and black bowties and lots of dark wood and dim lighting. The bar has some blue back lighting, giving the restaurant an elegant air.
For my first course, I ordered the tomato bisque, whose muted, dull flavor reminded me more of a canned sauce than a freshly made soup.
My second course, sirloin steak topped with a Parmesan crust with a side of garlic mashed potato also disappointed. While I ordered the steak medium rare, it came to the table as rare, almost blue in the middle. My server never checked in after my entree was delivered, so there was no opportunity to remedy this situation. The potatoes were slightly pasty in texture from being over whipped.
The turtle cheesecake served for the dessert course was something that I would expect to buy at a standard grocery store than at a higher end steakhouse.
If I were to recommend a Madison steakhouse, I strongly prefer Rare Steakhouse over Johnny's.

One of my favorites in Madison for steaks! Great food, always excellent service (especially Jeffrey on our Thursday lunches). Steak steak steak is my favorite lunch special on Thursday, and they have awesome food every evening!

First visit to Johnny's Italian Steakhouse - recommended and joined by friends. Cocktails at the bar - Classic Wisconsin Old Fashioned and some Johnny Walker. Our server was great, super friendly and accommodating - even offered some "readers" to see the menu better. I had the ribeye - one of the best steaks I've had in some time. She had the cedar planked salmon - excellent. Pasta, Salad and bread - delicious. This was a top notch, classic supper club experience - Well done.

Fabulous Italian and steak Foods and reasonably priced. Service was very good very attentive. The atmosphere is dark and quiet and a very enjoyable place to have an elegant meal.

I Have been here many times and never had a bad experience until today. My daughter and I came here for restaurant week today and I ordered the rib eye medium and mashed potatoes. We received the food and it looked wonderful from what I could see because it's a bit on the darker side in there which is nice. So I cut my daughter a piece and continued to cut the steak. She said ugh it's all fat, so then i inspect because I didn't notice any fat and realize it's rare, which to me means raw! When the waitress returns she can see that I'm not eating and asked if something was wrong. I showed her that the meat was purple. She asked if i wanted to send it back and I told her no because I don't do that and I would fix it when I got home. She never sent a manager over didn't offer nothing. It was a little disappointing because i do really enjoy this restaurant. And she was very nice, but I feel as someone who waited tables for a living that this should've been handled a bit differently.
