What a Wonderful Hospital to bring your Fur Babies to when you have an Emergency. I had to bring my 7 year old Rescue Maltese in after she jumped off the couch and couldn't use her hind legs. I can't say enough about the Nurses, Receptionists, Doctors and Pharmacists they were, kind, friendly, supportive and very knowledgeable. I am so grateful for the wonderful care we both received!!

Alex, Dr. Ruby and especially Elizabeth are wonderful. They are so caring not only about your pet but about the pet parents as well. Elizabeth went above and beyond to help me and Dr Ruby was there to help with suggestions even when I was not in an examining room. The place is immaculate and the staff is warm and nuturing. They take all the time and answer all the questions you have have about your pet. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars was that the prices are very high. I do recommend them highly.

I think sometimes it takes a bad experience to make you grateful for all the good ones. Recently I took my boys to a different vet emergency and let me say: never again! I previously had taken my cat to this emergency vet two times prior but it’s a little far and I took for granted a few of the things they offered: 1. They let you stay with your pet while processing. Certainly you are asked to step out for procedures. This is seriously important thing: my cats are nervous and being there with them with a stranger makes them feel 100% safer and happier 2. The time it took was never unreasonable and neither was the cost I feel so grateful for the healthy and happy cat I got to take home, and the little things matter. Highly recommend in the case of an animal emergency.

Do not bring your animals to this vet. I took my dog Mac to this vet on May 19th because my normal vet was closed. My poor dog was vomiting and they did x-rays and said that he had blockages in his intestines. And told me in order to save him I had to come up with $5500. I raised the money and approved he surgery they said the surgery went great and they feed him regular dry dog food right after his surgery. I am no vet but having surgery on your intestines and then being feed dry dog food 2 hours after a major suregy does not seem right to me. They sent my boy home on Sunday and gave me pain meds and told me to come back in 14 days to have the staples removed. No follow up visit to see how he was doing. I had to call the vet several times during the week to send them pictures of the incision PICTURES! They told me it looks fine continue to do what I was doing. I woke up Friday morning the 25th of May to find him bleeding from his staples I rushed him into the vet asap when I got there they told me it was just a pocket of fluid behind the staples this vet was so cold and had no bedside manner at all they took mac out back and asked me to leave him and go to work. This was 6am I went to work and still heard nothing until 11am because I called and the receptionist told me that the vet was going to call me back an hour later I get a call from the vet stating the surgical site inside his body broke down. And he will need more surgery which would be another $6500. I left work to go to the vets office when I got there Dr Klaus Stated that his was septic and that his intestines had broke down and his intestinal fluids were draining into his stomach and abdomin. Then she says well you have a care credit see what you have left and we can go from there. The vet said there is a 50% chance this surgery will work but then he would need to stay at the hospital for 2 weeks after surgery and this would be additional cost not included in the $6500 they quoted. In the end we had to put Mac down because he was not going to make it regardless. When we made the decision to put him down the vet said it’s your decision this vet was very cold and made myself and my friend feel horrible saying he was too young to put down. When they finally brought him into the room he was so medicated that he could bearly stand they walked in left him leaning against the couch and left the room. I had to pick him up and carry him into the middle of the room and lay him on the freezing floor no blanket nothing. Then the vet finally came back in and gave him he shot to put him to sleep when he finally passed nothing but blood came out of his rectum. When my mother said this the vet was just very cold heart and said yea that happens and she threw a bunch of tissues on it and left the room. They charged us an additional $800 and left me sitting in the room with my dog no one came back in to take him away this place is horrible the only thing they care about is money and that is it they have no care for your animals just their paychecks stay away from this place at all cost.

There is much that shapes an opinion of a place - the feel, the friendliness of the support staff, phone etiquette, the doctors, the empathy, the accommodations for waiting patients, the services offered etc. etc. I experienced Mass Vet Referral from both an emergency hospital perspective as well as a patient parent to see a specialist. Every time I have called, their support staff has been courteous and helpful - beyond compare! Their environment is friendly and the snacks, coffee and hot beverages are something small, but important when you are waiting for tests to be completed. I especially liked the lantern they had at the front desk, asking visitors to be respectful if it was lit (meaning a pet parent was letting their animal go). The emergency vet was EXTREMELY patient with me as I tried to decide which way to go with diagnostic testing. She afforded me as much time as I needed in the exam room and kept coming back and forth to check in. I spent A LOT of time researching internal medicine specialists - I was looking for someone who had been in the field for a while - with solid practical as well as theoretical experience. I saw Dr. Diane Philips and for the first time in 30 days felt a HUGE sense of relief with her. Finally someone took my issues seriously - she suggested tests that were necessary but was not an alarmist. Her bedside manner was incredible - she was patient and allowed me to explain details of importance and details I just wanted to share. Never was I rushed or made to feel as though I was babbling. As I was walking back into the exam room with her - a nearby couple who must have seen her in the past, said to me " you are in such good hands - she is wonderful." and I couldn't agree more. I highly recommend this institution - for their competence, friendliness and range of high end diagnostic tests they can do right on site to provide you with answers. Kudos to the management for employing top notch people and for their constant reinforcement of the need for excellent customer service. Obie is doing very well at this point and I'm very grateful I found Mass Vet Referral.
