Mountain Brace Systems

My son went to Saltzer for a shoulder injury and the doctor gave him a sling. He was never informed that he would be billed by a third party for the sling, nor was he informed how much the sling would cost. The sling is literally less than $10 at Walmart. Had he been told he would be charged $114.82 (that's right!!! $114.82) for a sling, he would have gone to Walmart and purchased one for less than $10. Even Norco only charges $18.50 for their slings. When I called Mountain Brace, I was told that they base their prices on what Medicare pays. There is absolutely no way Medicare will pay $114.82 for a sling! Are you serious? The customer service rep did however offer to reduce the price by 20% if the $91.85 was paid today! Again, are you kidding me? Who in their right mind would pay $20 for a sling let alone $91.85 or $114.82. And they wonder why our insurance rates are so outrageous. The response to the previous post about how the insurance companies dictate what is paid is ludicrous. Mountain Brace Systems has a price they charge for their product and they submit that charge to the insurance company. The insurance company will pay what is usual and customary. The insurance company does not dictate what Mountain Brace Systems charges but rather what they receive from the insurance. Please be ware that any durable medical equipment you receive from any provider, be it Saltzer or otherwise, find out how much you are going to be charged before walking out the door with it. According to Saltzer, they have no idea how much the slings cost. Really? Saltzer just willy-nilly gives product to its clients and expects them to get billed by a third party that Saltzer contracts with in an amount that is outrageous. Saltzer's bill was $134.48, which is $19.66 more than the stupid sling.
