Nippon Tei

Haven't been here in a long time. Looks like they changed the menu. Good rolls. Also had the uni nigiri, and that was good. Great service. And ambiance.

This place used to be awesome. Its still ok, but comparatively, just doesn't stack up. The vibe, music, service, and menu have changed, its more like a cafe instead of fine dining. It used to be our go to spot. Now, it'll do in a pinch.

Appetizers were fine, cocktails great, overall cooking technique was very good, presentation good, atmosphere nice, sushi... Not so good. Actually the worst sushi I've had, even picked the ingredients apart to taste them but there was zero flavour. Scallop should be naturally sweet and roe and eel sauce, slightly fishy. The rice had no bite and was over cooked. Even simple sushi should burst in your mouth with flavour, but this did the very opposite. Just mushy and bland.

Food was fantastic as well as the service. The decor of the restaurant was top notch. Can't praise the food enough. Can't wait to go back!

My wife, a friend, and I had dinner at Nippon Tei New Years eve and it was wonderful. The Sushi is so good you don't want to share! I tried the Philly Roll and the Spicy crab and all I could say is wow. We've been to other good Sushi places in St. Louis but Nippon Tei is simply the best. My only complaint is that I didn't order more.
