More than just a cemetery. It is architecturally very interesting, with lots of incredible mausoleums and unique headstones. Views of downtown Atlanta create an interesting landscape as you walk the expansive grounds maintained by the city. Delicious restaurants like Agave (my favorite!) right outside the gates!

Oakland is a jewel in Atlanta! A beautiful public space with a long historic past, many legendary Atlanta figures and a beautiful visitor center and nursery. It’s a place to visit for every season.

I fell in love with Oakland in 2006, I volunteer some, but I go there more often for my own pleasure. I love the tours and scavenger hunts, but I also like to do silly things like decide on a few first names and then look for monuments with those names. Having a goal makes the rambling more fun. On rainy days with an umbrella, you find low markers that you typically overlook. FYI, my first name spelled correctly can be found in the Defoor lot and one day it will be in my own lot near the Beau Allen Greenhouse and Potter's Field over in Hog Pen Corner. Enjoy!!

A cool place to checkout if you're looking for something new to do. A lot of history buried in this area of the city. Offers the opportunity for a quiet stroll through a hidden portion of the city. Definitely a good place to take out of town visitors. Bonus: There is a nice place right across the street to stp and have a bite to eat, enjoy a good beer, and chat about what you just saw -- six feet under.

Spur of the moment trip. We lucked out and had a two hour tour. It was so interesting. One can take several types of tours. Three I think are worth taking would be the General knowledge(the one we took) , Malts and Vaults, and Epitaphs. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The tour costs 12.00. I also downloaded an app on my phone which I have referred to since our visit. It has a map and an audio guide to the most important sections of the cemetery.
