This place was neat. They have a little hike about half mile we did with the kids. Walk through the old smelting area. It was neat seeing how the smelted ore back in the 1900's. It is wierder to think that they smelted it here with the way the terrain looks now.

A great piece of Utah history that is often forgotten. Located in Iron County over one of richest still iron deposits in the USA. Walk the entire trail to learn the entire process of smelting iron. If you have time walk the additional path to learn some additional history and to enjoy the variety of plant life.

There is not much there, but it was fun to see the beehive shape forge and the ruins of other buildings. It is a good hike for little kids. Took my 3 year old.

History is a wonderful thing to learn. Especially when you can be in the same exact spot that it happens. Nice walk thru old iron town and in the same paths that these people did years ago.

Local promotional materials refer to Old Iron Town as a "ghost town," but that's a bit of an overstatement. It's bounded by a housing development, which detracts from the "ghost" feel. The historical plaques, beehive furnace, and walls of a stone house are interesting, but there's not much left of the other structures beyond foundations and piles of bricks. Overall I'd say not worth the drive from Cedar City unless you're headed that direction for other things.
