Putnam is great. The loop is unpaved dirt and stones and an easy walk, and you’ll get a little history lesson about the revolutionary war in the process. It probably takes twenty or thirty minutes at a leisurely pace. The little pond near the entrance is full of bullfrog tadpoles in the spring, and there are some tiny caves in the middle of you’re feeling adventurous. Other options: Huntington’s nearby has longer routes and more trails, if you’re looking for something more arduous. The other half of Putnam Park on the other side of route 58 has swing sets and a paved loop (though more hilly). Sagatuck in Redding has nice trails as well.

Punam Park is a wonderful place. I have been visiting it since I was ten years old - now - decades later - I still enjoy it. The Historical structures from when General Putnam and his soldiers wintered here during the revolutionary war are simple - but for children and adults it gives one perspective on what the forces were having to endure in the fight for independence from Britain. Over the years I have enjoyed coming to walk or hike around the fairy easy trails with friends. Its a great place to talk while taking in nature. It's trails are easy enough for those who are not at the top of their fitness - but enjoyable for a run or brisk walk for those that are.

Great day trip. Lots of historical information and a great camping area (for groups).

Nice park to go for a walk. The road is unpaved. The view is beautiful. We love to take our dog with us something that other people also do. Plenty of parking. The park has a very interesting story.

This is a favorite place for me to walk, to think in peace or just get a little fresh air. There's the recreational side and the historical side which is called Connecticut's Valley Forge. You should visit to find out why, especially in the Fall when they hold their annual event with all sorts of Colonial era reenactors.
