I used to live right on Roosevelt forest, first of all there is no comparison between the maintenance of the trails between Roosevelt Forest and the Shelton trails. Shelton just does such a better job in every way with maintenance of their trails, providing garbage cans that actually get emptied...Stratford public works is a total failure as an organization. Also, since the police dept firing range in located within Roosevelt forest they often post "forest closed" signs at the main entrance of the forest. This is ludicrous in so many ways! There are at least 5-6 entrances into the forest, however they only post these ridiculous signs at the main entrance, does anyone else see a problem with this? LOL! And of course they do this in the spring right when the weather starts to get nice and in the fall....It's just a total failure of common sense...I mean you can park at any other entrance, or walk in from any other entrance if you live near one of them and you have no earthly idea that the forest is "closed". But if you happen to have to drive there you are turned around at the main entrance with the "Forest Closed" signs....Common sense has left our society!

The land is a bit of Vermont heaven, in a busy suburbia. Beautiful trails and awesome old fire chimneys.... I feel so at peace here. My dog loves it. However the shooting range overtakes any peace, but as has been said, it is so underutilized.positively heaven, until the shooting starts, and then, well, you have a 100lb golden retriever in your lap.

Easy to find. Some curvy roads but just go slow and you'll be fine. Near harvest ridge Rd.

Nice tranquil forest. Underutilized by the town. Could benefit from being staffed by a professional ranger along with the rest of the towns parks.
