Ruth's Chris Steak House - Charleston

We've eaten in the dining room, and had wonderful food and elegant service, but wanted a more relaxed atmosphere last Friday night. It was our first experience at Ruth's Chris Bar, and it won't be the last. It has a friendly, lively atmosphere and also has Happy Hour specials for some delicious food & drinks. We sat at a booth that gave us a direct view of Market Street, with terrific people-watching opportunities. Service was friendly and prompt and we had conversations with two waiter staff - John Williams and Josh - who made sure we received our orders exactly how we requested them, specifically - for me - with the red pepper pesto on the side. I loved the quirky touch of framed painting on the ceiling! But the FOOD was the highlight. I had the most delicious, perfectly prepared seared scallops I've ever eaten. "Luscious" is the most apt description. They were seared in lemon butter which didn't drown the delicate flavor. (And at a special Happy Hour price, too!) I can hardly wait to return.

Went here for Brunch Cocktails and had good cocktails and great service from the bartender. The place was pretty empty at Noon on a Sunday. We did have a good conversation with another couple. I've been to Ruth's Chris before in other markets and they are a great chain steak house. So, I'm sure this place has just as good food.

If I could give it 0 I would. I made reservations a few weeks ago for our anniversary. I noted in the reservation that this was for our anniversary. Upon arrival the hostess seated us right away. The table we were sat at was right next to the kitchen with a view of the meal prep area due to the open door. The area was very untidy. We were greeted by an amazing assistant Shawn. When the waiter, Jason, finally showed up at the table, he quickly went over a few things in regards to the restaurant and walked away as my husband was asking him a question. By the time he came back, we already knew what we wanted to order. My husband was able to get that out of his mouth the appetizer we waned as he walked away again without getting the rest of our order. He came back dropped the appetizer off and walked away again without getting our order. The appetizer was 2 crab cakes. The taste was good although presentation was awful. On of the crab cakes was in pieces in the plate. Finally the waiter came back to take our order. He rushed is through it and walked away again mid sentence. Our soup/salad came out. I could see the kitchen putting together the salads (even though there was doors, they were left open). The person was grabbing handfuls of stuff as basically throwing them on a plate. Sometimes they had a glove on others not. As soon as they were brought out the waiter asked how everything was. We had not even had a chance to take a bite out of our food. At that time the only thing we could say was fine. He filled my tea with a watered down version of tea and walked away again. We started to eat. My salad was tasteless and the balsamic vinaigrette was like pure oil. The lobster bisque soup my husband had was mediocre at best. When the waiter came back again to ask how everything was I told him what was wrong. His reply "maybe you should have told me that the first time. Anything else you wanna add?" So I told him about the watered down tea and the butter that I could have gotten better taste with Great Value brand butter. He proceeded to pick everything up off the table and said "right, seems like your not going to be happy with anything" and walked away. I heard this waiter say things to other customers that you would not expect from an upscale dining establishment. My husband had Shawn, who again was amazingly wonderful, to get the floor manger. I explained to the floor manger what had happened up to that point and asked for our check from what we had received to that point. As I'm not one not to pay for what I've received regardless of how horrible it was. He said not to worry about it and we left. This waiter Jason is going to be the down fall of your establishment. Any person who would speak to a customer the way he did that evening does not need to be in any customer service job.

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant the 2nd star is because the food when i finally received it, was decent and the lady who brought it out seemed nice and knowledgeable. Our, server Charlie seemed high or something. Kept forgetting stuff and disappeared several times for a long period of time. Liked the food, but would never go back based on service for the price. There’s a lot better out there!

Excellent atmosphere, fun art on ceiling, cool a/c, right off from shopping. Good single malt scotch assortment. The happy hour had excellent prices on food and drink. Quality food, vibrant color flavor and fresh. Brendan, bartender, was great at bar, met all expectations. Management checked on everyones service throughout the meal.
