I went in for a brazilian and full leg wax. I will never go back and I don’t recommend Sage Day Spa for waxing.
Here’s the Reader’s Digest version of what went wrong:
- Improperly painful experience
- Esthetician failed to trim hair that was too long to be waxed (ouch!)
- Double dipped the wax
- Reused the same wax strip an unreasonable amount of times
- Didn’t press down on the strip sufficiently to prepare for the pull
- Didn’t hold my skin taut when pulling (ouch!)
- The supervisor had me confront the esthetician afterward instead of handling it herself
- Didn’t offer any compensation for the unpleasant experience or try to keep my future business in any way
The longer version:
My esthetician was very nice, but didn’t trim any of the longer hair before starting to wax. She double dipped the wax and reused the same wax strip way too many times. I understand the need to ration out their supplies and be cost-efficient, but you can only reuse a wax strip one or two times before it starts catching and tugging very sensitive skin. She also did not press very hard when preparing the wax strip before pulling, nor did she hold my skin very taut, leading to an even more painful experience. On top of this, when a wax experience is almost through, the esthetician will usually “clean” the area by placing and pulling a used wax strip repeatedly very quickly to make sure all the hair is removed – this was how she waxed most of my legs, short bursts of reused wax strips. I’ve never had such a painful experience and I’m no stranger to waxing.
It’s reasonable to expect waxing to be somewhat painful, but this was so much more painful than any other I’ve had - ever. I had to ask my esthetician to stop and only do a half leg instead of full because I couldn’t handle it anymore.
When my waxing was through, I asked if I could pay for just half the price of my originally scheduled full-leg wax, rather than the full price of a half-leg wax because of my experience (which I relayed to her in a whisper so my esthetician wouldn’t hear and be offended, I know she didn’t mean any harm). The receptionist went in the back to call the boss to confirm if the discount would be ok. When she came back, she also brought my esthetician with her and said, “I’m going to let you two talk while I take care of this other customer.” She then left me on my own to awkwardly confront my esthetician who had just spent over an hour with me and tell her the situation, even though I had specifically not brought it up during my session (I didn’t feel comfortable correcting her technique, and asking her to stop half way through my full leg wax should have been sufficient).
I was so incredibly uncomfortable and stammered out my main concerns with my experience. She was very kind about it, but I felt like I was left to on my own to tell her everything she did wrong and, in a sense, train her. When she left, I told the receptionist I really did not appreciate being ambushed and forced to confront my esthetician who had not meant any harm. It turns out the boss had told the receptionist to bring my esthetician out to speak with me.
They then, did not allow the discount I requested (or any kind of incentive to come back again - coupons, samples, etc.).
As a customer, I was not responsible for training the esthetician - not my place at all. A boss, manager, or trainer should be the one to correct mistakes, not a customer – especially when it made me so uncomfortable. I was very unhappy with how the situation was managed and will not be returning.

Loved my massage. I will definitely be back!! Everyone was super friendly. Left very relaxed and feeling better. Brenda is great!!!

*update) I contracted the spa through Facebook and the owner was so amazing. She addressed all of my concerns. She was highly professional and understanding. She fixed my issue fairly and with respect to everyone. I have never experienced customer service this great. I will be you g back just not for a Brazilian was. I received a Brazilian Wax and aromatherapy body scrub. The body scrub was amazing and i felt wonderful after. The wax was very poorly done. I have strips and clumps of hair left behind. Spent 2 hrs plucking the remainder and still haven't gotten them all. Not even close. I'm very disappointed as this was my first spa experience and the wax was the reason i went. The body scrub though was amazing.

Staff was great. Lots of extras included with services. I can’t say enough. You have to give them a try!

I had such a great experience here! I was very nervous to get a wax after an awful experience at a different salon, but I can say this was excellent. The service was great, the staff was friendly and they took care of me. This is the place to go for a wax (of any kind) in Rexburg
