Sakae Sushi

5 stars isn't enough. When we first walked in we were greeted by the staff and chose our own seating. Although, the menu has a plentiful selection, when asking the waitress for recommendations she produced another smaller menu of options. We ended up ordering 4 rolls of wonderfully fresh and mouth watering sushi. We arrived during happy hour 430-600 and received a specialized happy hour menu as well. Order the jade melonball, it was to die for! Over the last year we have done google searches looking for the best sushi in Kansas City and in our opinion this is it.

I have gone her probably 20 times and never had a problem until today. I have celiac disease and need to eat gluten free. This place has a gluten free menu with a good selection. I've ordered many times with specific instructions that my food needs to be prepared with a change of gloves and clean knives /cutting board. My husband does not need to eat gluten free and orders off the regular menu. As stated above, we have never had a problem before and have even ordered take out. Tonight my husband went there to pick up takeout and he placed the order with the server to go. All was well until the entire order came in one box. He had explained the requirements of the food preparation in detail. He explained that his roll was fine, but that my order would need to be remade. The owner who was preparing the sushi threw a fit and stated he had gotten fresh rice, no gluten.... Rice doesn't contain gluten. The soy sauce and tempura my husbands roll contained did. The owner then tried to just switch my food to a new box. My husband explained that that does not work for someone with a food allergy. The owner threw his hands up and yelled at my husband. My husband stated that either the food needed to be remade or he needed his money back. He left with no food as the owner refused to remake the food. I feel like this restaurant should not have a gluten free menu if the owner doesn't even know what gluten is! This was once one of our favorite places, but we will not be back.

I come here pretty often, for something called the 'Green Goddess's roll. It's unique and delicious. I also love this place because it has hot plates if you are eating with friends who don't want sushi. Sometimes service can be slow if busy, but weekday nights are a perfect time to visit for attentive service and delicious food, of course.

Lunch and happy hour specials can't be beat. Try the spicy tuna roll and the tempura roll. Delicious!

Try the spicy crab salad. #lifechanging I have cravings for that salad! Their sushi is plated beautifully and always taste fresh. The staff is super friendly. But seriously, the spicy crab salad!
